screen goes black locks up and reboot problems

Okay, I have an nVidia GeForce 6600 and running Win7 Ultimate.

When it works, it works fine. But if I leave the machine for more than 20 minutes, untouched, the display goes black and it locks the screen up, making me reboot.

Which leads to my second problem: About 7 times out of 10 in booting, the display will go black after about two seconds at every step. So after the initial memory screen, it goes black and when the password screen comes up, it goes black. I can put the password in and it will "cycle" to Windows but it stays black.

The 20 minutes during which the system is idle, Windows turns off both the display and the hard disk. Go to start menu and type in "power", then click Power Options. Make a new plan or change the default one by clicking "change plan settings". Click "Change advanced power settings" and turn off these two problematic options, then see if there are any changes.

If not, try and get the newest drivers from nVidia if you don't have them already, 'cause this sounds like a GPU issue to me.

Thanks. I did change those settings so hopefully that will work.

Alright. Post back if the problem occurs again and we'll see what we can do from there.
