Guys, I've been busy for the past two days, mainly because I'm starting college tomorrow, so I haven't been able to run any tests, sorry

But, the past two days have seen my laptop shut down suddenly again. = /

Just can't seem to find what the problem is...

And it sure would be nice to have it running okay while you are at University, huh..?

We need to isolate somehow; exactly, the activity it is enduring or has endured when this happens.
  • Where is it when it happens.
  • Does it always happen in the same location when you use it.
  • Is it around any other electromagnetic devices in use or on standby that are near by.
  • On your desk.
  • On your lap.
  • Does it happen right after it has been moved.
  • Does it happen after it has been on, but setting stationary for a while.
  • Is it on wood, plastic, metal?
  • Are the vents clean?
  • Does it happen when someone passes by where it is running?
  • Does it happen when your neighbors using his Ham/CB radio?
  • An airplane passes over your house?
  • Any pets near the PC that could disturb it?, although I think I remember it will happen only when your near by.
  • There are other scenarios, but I think we have covered them so far.

You don't need to answer all of these questions...I'm just trying to jog your memory.

Well, it happens sometimes when I am using it on the desk (wood), or on my bed. As far as I can see, the vents are clean but I may be wrong of course.

Also, the shutdown has happened a total of 6 times so far, and all them times the laptop has been on battery power. So, in other words, when the laptop is plugged in, it hasn't turned off...

If it were me, and I could afford it I would purchase a new battery. It's looking more, and more like that battery.

Here is a review from ITPRO/UK:
Quote:
The 2133's battery life hammers the final nail into the HP Mini Note's magnesium alloy coffin. Sitting idle, with wireless off and the screen set to medium brightness, the three cell battery died one minute shy of the two hour mark.
Turn wireless on, and try using the HP however, and you can expect that to drop to little over an hour. Opt for the 6-cell battery, and stamina will no doubt improve, but its extra capacity will leave it jutting from the 2133's slender rear and add to the weight too.

Sorry for replying so late, work's been getting in the way. I think my battery could be the problem.

- Firstly, it only charges to around about 75%, then the charging light turns off and when i click on the battery icon, it says 'plugged in, not charging'.

- Next, it charges above 75%, but very slowly, the charging light turns on and off sometimes.

- Also, the battery drains extremely quick and i'm not even sure it displays the amount of time left correctly!

- Finally, the battery even seems to charge really quick too...

I think I see a pattern here.....
So, are you waiting for the "Save for a Rainy Day Jar" to fill up before you get a new battery?

Sorry for such a late update to the thread, just that I've been really busy with work.

Guys, the problem is the battery!

A day or so ago, a red cross appeared next to the battery icon and a notification came up saying: There are problems with your battery so your computer may turn off suddenly.

Thanks for all of your help mates, much appreciated.

Just need to invest in a new battery or even a new laptop!

PS - Special thanks to Anak, for helping so much!

Your welcome, glad I could help you sort it out.

Sure took long enough for the battery note to show up. Wonder if you could change the warning sensitivity in the bios or the power management program.

Couldn't find anything specific here:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/.../c01420362.pdf

I found that page at the HP UK site here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=64255&prodTypeId=321957&prodSer iesId=3687084〈=en&cc=uk

Take care, and keep those grades up!

How to find drivers -
Quote:
- I have listed links to most of the drivers in the code box below. Please use the links there to see what info I've found about those drivers.
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

Uninstall Avira using the removal tool and update these drivers. Reboot and let's see how your system does.
