Random BSOD

Hi

I have virtually the same error here with my PC - it seems to be random and could repeatedly reproduce the problem when loadin itunes (I have uninstalled itunes now) and since then the bugcheck fe has been not as frequent as before when i had itunes installed.

I have also replaced motherboard and also memory modules and still see this bugcheck occur, but not as frequently as before when i had itunes.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

Here is the bugcheck finger print analysis:

I have virtually the same error here with my PC - it seems to be random and could repeatedly reproduce the problem when loadin itunes (I have uninstalled itunes now) and since then the bugcheck fe has been not as frequent as before when i had itunes installed.

I have also replaced motherboard and also memory modules and still see this bugcheck occur, but not as frequently as before when i had itunes.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

Here is the bugcheck finger print analysis:

If as this says it is a Bugcheck FE it is a usb problem see here Bug Check 0xFE: BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER

We could really use the actual DMP file to run other modules. Pkease upload it

thanks in advance

Hi ZigZag,

The document you refered to is suggesting Hardware failure - I've replaced motherboard and Memory. I haven't the disk, graphics card or TV tuner. I have creative Soundblaster USB card though - I have disconnected it and have had the same stop code without before.

I have also just changed my power option plan to performance, it was on previously set to power save.

I've zipped up the memory.dmp file - it's about 80MB in size, where do I upload the dump?

Regards
Jim

I just checked my device manager, I can see here the 3rd parameter taken from the memory.dmp that the device it points to is the Standard enhanced PCI-USB..

the memory dump itself is 80mb compressed the attachment option in this forum doesn't allow larger uploads than about 10mb for zip files. I ran the utility from the main thread post and have attached it. let me know if you need anything else...

Yes, you are correct - it's complaining about allocations made by that specific USB hardware driver. However, if you read the windbg help file for this specific 0xFE bugcheck (a 0x5 for the first parameter), it's saying there's a hardware issue, not a software one:

Quote:
A hardware failure has occurred due to a bad physical address found in a hardware data structure. This is not due to a driver bug.
Given past experience with these, it's going to be one of three things, in order of probability: a reset issue due to the controller being offline (bad memory), a BIOS firmware issue causing hardware communication to fail, or memory addresses accessed that are "out of bounds" (aka, not a real address) when accessing it. Given this is a Windows inbox driver for the chipset USB controller, I'd suspect it's not the last, although anything is possible (it's just not very probable). In general I only see these on Intel controllers, mostly on HP hardware, and 9 times out of 10 it's a hardware issue with the BIOS ultimately at fault. I'm guessing if you replaced the motherboard with the same HP board (according to the dump data it's a Foxconn board specifically HP branded), you've probably not actually changed whatever in the hardware is causing the problem. You have likely eliminated the RAM itself as the culprit though, so there's always that.

thanks for the explenation cluberti. Yes foxconn h/w and have replaced with the same. This new motherboard's bios firmware is older than the previous motherboard I had installed, but this seems to be a lot more stable than the other, however I hadn't uninstalled itunes when I had the original motherboard.

HP don't provide any specific drivers for Win 7 x64 or x86 for this model PC, but they do have specific drivers for Vista though. I can't really talk to HP cause I don't have any warrenty support and would need to pay some fee, and even if i do they might not be able to provide a solution.

Might be best to look at a new M/B all together, but the case is specifically designed to suit this M/B

Good luck to you - that's the downside to an OEM machine. I am not against them (I run them myself), but this just smells like a firmware issue. Whatever your system is doing is bringing forth some likely bug in the hardware.

thanx! i think i will try the Foxconn Product Technical Forum (Welcome!) forums and see if any of their support read up on those forums...

I think I may have narrowed down the problem and am now working around it - I changed my Power Saver option from Power Saver to Performance and haven't had a crash since. I've even re-installed ITunes and it too is working just fine now - so the issue here I am having is the Power Save options in Windows 7 x64...
