Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Freezing - what gives?
Here's the deal - I built a PC out of parts I bought online. Brand new. Windows 7 64 Bit Premium Home edition is freezing like crazy
.
The first two days I had this PC up and running it was fine. Then when I played Starcraft 2 for a while it froze before I quit for the night. No problems for a day after that between playing SC2 and left 4 dead 2.
But today? Today it got way bad. For a while it wouldn't even let me boot into windows. I 'm not sure what I did to work around that. I've been playing around with so much shit. Switching between the two sticks of ram I have, running scans, chkdsk, whatever. No problems found.
I read somewhere that the BIOS settings for the RAM needs to be set otherwise it will cause problems (since it defaults to automatic I think?) or by getting updates for the motherboard.
I'm honestly completely clueless. I installed the latest drivers for my video card but I have no idea what specs I need to change in the bios for my ram.
I've got: GeForce GTX 470
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT
Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield
ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA
So is it the RAM frequency? The voltage? Is it my video card? I reinstalled/updated drivers for that. What's the deal here? No malware or viruses showed up so it's not that. One thing I should mention is that all of this, I THINK, occured after one of the most recent windows updates but I'm not 100% sure if that was it.
Any help or input or anything would be appreciated.
Keep in mind sometimes it doesn't get past the "Windows is loading" screen, sometimes it freezes at welcome, and a lot of times it will boot fine but then freeze when I load up a game.
