Problem gone?
No. . .
What Anti-virus software are you using?
Avast home edition
Download Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).
100% remove Avast.
Install and run MSE.

Problem gone?
In any case, stick with MSE, which is used by the majority of the people who answers questions here. Do NOT under any circumstance run two or more AV programs at the same time.
How is AV change going to solve the problem ?
I am using Avast since an year and quite satisfied with it !
Secondly, This problem never occurred in the past year.
Anyways, Since you recommend it I am going to uninstall AVAST and install MSE.
I am unable to install MSE because of WGA !!
Inspite of the fact that I am using original copy.
Original does not imply authentic.
Contact Microsoft and they will be able to verify for you as to whether you have an authentic copy or not.
If they authenticate your software then you will be able to install MSE and install updates.
Okey , will contact them.
But apart from it is there no other way left ?
Will I have to format all the 300 GB of data ?
Good.
I'll await the successful install of MSE
AND the completion of running Microsoft Update.
