    Pc Freezes

It happens randomly - out of nowhere it will just freeze and nothing happens. Sometimes when it's idling, sometimes when I press enter in Firefox, sometimes when I click the start bar, sometimes when it loads iTunes. The screens are still on, the pc is still on and making noise, but everything stops. No blue screen. It happened with the beta x86, and happens with the x86 and 64bit versions of RC1.

This never happened with my XP install.

Spec: AMD 64bit dual core processor, 2GB RAM, 80GB system drive, 1TB data drive, NForce 6100-m9 mobo, Geforce 8800GTS GPU,

Any ideas? Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I can't seem to find a "problems" forum.

Type eventvwr in the start search box ... click on the icon and see what is hanging or causing the problem

I thought I'd solved the problem, it appeared to be AVG, but after uninstalling I still get the same errors.

How do I use the Event Viewer properly to find out what might be causing the hangs?

I used to have freezes consistently not too long ago, and found out it was a combo of motherboard bios and nvidia drivers. Eventually they got updated and the problem was fixed. Perhaps it's a driver or hardware issue?

    Thanks, jfar...?

Yeah could be the drivers, the mobo isn't exactly new I suppose. Maybe it's time I upgraded...!

For now I guess I could always use XP again... but I have 7 at work and on my laptops and XP just feels weird now :P

I had this problem constantly when I was using the RC. I just upgragded to 7137 and It crashed once so far. The screen just freezes. I thought it was my wireless adapter at first, but it freezes randomly. I thought it was windows update for a while too. I will update my mobo drivers and see what happens.

    32-bit program produces gpf, BSOD.

I'm new with Win 7 RC; trying it on a spare machine. The program "WinPack", a popular amateur radio packet program, can crash Win7RC easily. The system memory is only 510 Mb, usage seems to hover around 330 Mb. The program runs fine on XP on the same machine, and XP hasn't crashed for me.

BTW, how does one start a new thread?

    TIA, Mac
