Getting BSOD reference pointer every now and again :( please help!!

windows 7 professional, full retail, 64 bit. the machine is about two years old but everything has been working fine.

i only just reformatted and installed windows 7 on the pc, so that might have something to do with it. i loaded up the basic programs, firefox/vlc/defraggler/itunes, then when adding my media library and plugging in my ipod this blue screen happened.

it happened again this morning but this time nothign with ipod/itunes was open, so im hoping the dump files can tell you whats wrong.

i would be sooooooooo grateful if i could fix this problems.

You failed to fill in the System Specs - it can help someone that is trying to help you.

Does the failures only occur when you plug in a USB device? Or just at some point you get the blue screen and Windows does the dump and reboots?

One thought, most motherboards have chipset drivers, and one of the things it does is define the devices on the motherboard including USB. On an install/reinstall the motherboard drivers usually must be installed before installing device drivers or some device drivers cannot be installed or "generic" devices that use the built in Windows drivers such as USB will not work or work correctly.

Another suggestion, with the PC powered off, is to reseat the memory modules and any plug in cards such as Video, and whatever else you have.

I'd start with these free, bootable diagnostics:

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Malware (read the details at the link)

Only 2 hotfixes are listed in the systeminfo report. There are at least 45 to 60 available from Windows Update. Please visit Windows Update and install them immediately.

Your Internet Download Manager is running out of your Temp folder - not a good scenario as frequently malware tries to launch from there. Any clearing of the Temp files will cause the program to stop working. Please uninstall it and then install a fresh copy to the Program Files directory.

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.

thanks for the reply, i have reseated everything, and the second time the bsod happened no usb device was really active. (although there were a few plugged in)

is an amd 4200 dual core at 2.2 ghz, 4gb ram, radeon x1650 gpu, 250 hdd,

i cant see any generic device in the device manager, and i remember not need to do anything with the mobo drivers when i put on vista a year ago. (ill try to find the name on the mobo and get whatever i can installed now though and see if that helps.

is there no red flag in the dump files i attached that might give a better indication of a specific problem i can fix?

Frankly, I suspect that it's the lack of Windows Updates that's causing your problem. But there's enough doubt about that that I feel the hardware diagnostics are warranted also.

The other things that I've mentioned can also cause problems, but are less likely (IMO) than the 2 reasons I just mentioned.

thanks, i hope thats the case too. all update were not complete until this afternoon (incluing a big 44 update session)
