    Toshiba laptop has boot issues

Toshiba laptop with Vista was having issues booting into regular mode. Attempted several things and eventually just upgraded it to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Worked fine the first 2 times I booted it up. Now I have the issue below:

When first booted up, it tries to start but cannot complete. Restarts and goes to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen where the choices are Start Windows Normally or Launch Startup Repair (Recommended). If you choose start windows normally, it goes through the same thing. If you choose to repair, it goes through the repair tool, reboots and logs into Windows normally.

Is there an issue with the MBR since there was issues with booting in Vista? Is there a hardware issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Check Event Viewer for the log file that Startup Repair makes. Let us know what you find.
You may just run Startup Repair again and select the Details link to see what it reports.

The issue here is why the repair doesn't "stick" - is something broken, or is something resetting the system after the repair is done?

Does it keep happening after Startup Repair? If it does, boot from Win 7 DVD and click "Repair your computer" to fix startup issues.

I will look at the Event Viewer tomorrow and post what I find.

Yes, it happens after every reboot. And I have tried the "repair your computer" several times to no avail.

I was never able to get Windows 7 running again. Always gets the BSOD. I was able to install Ubuntu 10.10 along side Windows 7 and it works no problem. Does anyone have any suggestions, now that I can actually get into the system, what I can do to fix it?
