Getting rid of the <this program has stopped working, etc > dialog
I've been using win7 since the release candidates where available and I'm fairly happy with it. Just one part has been driving me nuts.
Whenever a program doesn't close down correctly or crashes you get a helpfull little popup that says " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please colse the program." With a single button that says close the program. Fine so far, however most of the time it's not actually a crash or anything it's just an old winxp program that closes down in a weird way when you exit it.
To make matters worse the damn dialog window is a small box about 3 inches wide, it hides the cursor on any other part of the screen and when it pops up it's not automatically selected. So you can't press enter and have to hunt with an invisble cursor for a small box in the middle of your screen. I'm pretty sure this entire thing is designed to be as annoying as possible. Even worse there's only one action which is pressing the damned close button making the entire popup pointless in the first place.
I've tried turning off error reporting for all users but that doesn't change a thing. I've tried turning it off via both the control panel and via services, but the thing is still annoying me.
It is using the werfault.exe, but apparently not in order to report errors.
Does anybody have a clue how to get rid of this pointless popup?
