Random blue screens - ntoskrnl.exe+70740

Hi,

over the last week I've been getting random blue screens (mainly SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, but the most recent was KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) all related to ntoskrnl.exe+70740.

I've noticed that when I restart after getting the blue screen, should I enter the BIOS, all the SATA drives aren't recognised properly (I shows that they're there, but doesn't seem to recognise what model they are.)

I've been running W7 pro x64 since early this year.

I've updated the drivers or the software with which they came (ATK0110[?], Speedfan, Intel Rapid, Atheros AR81x, Networx, and Alcohol)

The attachment doesn't show any additional crashes, just after updating the drivers.

Keep us posted! Hopefully cybercore's advice did the trick.

If the BSODs persist, please enable driver verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

ATK0110 - it's Asus ATK 0110 Virtual Device ACPI, configuration and power managment driver. How to find this on Asus Support? Search -> motherboard name (P5Q for example) -> Downloads -> Utilities -> ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit. So this one doesn't have to come with software, it's a standalone driver, so to speak..

So far so good? If crashes persist, please follow Jonathan King's instructions to enable driver verifier and then attach the new .dmp's.

I've noticed that when I restart after getting the blue screen, should I enter the BIOS, all the SATA drives aren't recognised properly (I shows that they're there, but doesn't seem to recognise what model they are.)

I've been running W7 pro x64 since early this year.

Hi and welcome

The crashes in June were hardware related and caused by your HS storage driver. The more recent ones were caused by an ANCIENT ASACPI.sys driver dated 2005.

ASACPI.sys Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 2005

The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).
NEXT

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

I'm mainly concerned about the recent blue screens as they seem to be random and unavoidable (the older ones only occurred when I plugged a specific external drive into the front USB ports)

Unfortunately, I updated the ASACPI driver yesterday as part of cybercore's advice and have blue screened since then. (dmp attached)

I also updated the iaStor (Intel rapid) driver too. However, I'm unsure what the amdxata and spldr drivers relate to.
