Windows 7: Persistant BSODs

Persistant BSODs

I am trying to fix a custom built pc, about 7 months old. It has been suffering very persistent BSODs over the past few months (say, 4).

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Original and first installation of W7
Its a full retail version

The hardware is about 7 months old, the OS installation too.

Attached are the required files. One thing though: the perfmon report is in Dutch, and I was unable to translate it. My bad for that. It claims that no virusscan is installed, while the Security Center reports that AVG Anti-Virus Free is working perfectly. Kinda wierd.

Any help would be very appreciated!

atikmdag.sys, part of the ATI drivers is causing BSODs
Update your ATI driver: ATI Radeon

This was likely caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys
Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF88004B9A7EE, 0xFFFFF88009F1E8C0, 0x0)

Yup, I have been suspecting the ATI drivers too. Tried 9.6, 9.7, 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9. All versions crash.

Any advice?

Remove the ATI drivers using driver sweeper: Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Then reinstall the ATI drivers in safe mode

Have you tried to stresstest your videocard?

Try things like:
Furmark (I always run it for an hour)
3DMark Vantage (you can schedule 3 runs maximum at one time)

Furmark will heat up your GPU, so if it crashes, the problem could have something to do with your cooling. I personally have had only bad experiences with ATI, so if you can, try swapping it out with an Nvidia, and see if that fixes your problem.

@yowanvista
I started removing my drivers with Guru3D's Driver Sweeper and installing in safe mode when I first had the troubles. So I don't think that doing that again would change anything?

@Veliremus
I ran Furmark for an hour and a half, and no crashing. I don't think temperature is the problem anyway - SpeedFan always shows good temps, all fans work, and the case / individual parts aren't extremely hot.

Any additional help would be really, really apreciated.

Hi DisAstro, welcome to the forum. I looked at the three most recent dumps. One thing jumped out at me. You have an almost guaranteed BSOD maker on your system. Please uninstall any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads. Select delete; do not select reinstall.

Here is an alternative virtualization program that does not user the sptd.sys driver:
Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview.

Error code 3B (2X), SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. Usually causes:
System service, Device driver, graphics driver, ?memory.

Error code 1E, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Usual causes: Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS.

One of the dumps indicates SPTD.sys was involved the crash.

For trouble shooting purposes, I recommend that you uninstall AVG. AVG is known to cause crashes on some Win 7 systems. You will note that antivirus progrms are mentioned in the usual causes above. Use this unintall tool: Tool (64 bit). If you have Identity Protection installed, uninstall it with this tool: Tool. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials in its place.

In the usual causes, drivers are mentioned. I find the the following out of date drivers on your system. Older drivers can and do cause memory corruption and crashes. Two are quite obsolete. Update these drivers.

[quote]
adfs.SYS Thu Jun 26 16:52:37 2008 - Adobe File System Driver http://www.adobe.com. Uninstall all of your Adobe software. Download and install the latest versions. That will take care of this obsolete driver.

DRIVER_BIN64 Tue Jul 31 22:05:51 2007 - ATI Tray Driver. In few forums DRIVER_BIN64 is reported as it's not signature verified. You can uninstall the ATI Tray Tools (which I recommend) or just disable ATI Tray from the Startup. ATI Tray Tools is obsolete and not designed for Win 7.

LHidFilt.Sys Wed Jun 17 12:49:39 2009 - Logitech SetPoint HID Filter Driver Downloads. Update this driver.

LMouFilt.Sys Wed Jun 17 12:49:43 2009 - Logitech Mouse Filter driverDownloads. Update this driver.

netr28ux.sys Wed Feb 25 21:49:17 2009 - Ralink RT2860 series Wireless LAN Card (you may have a different manufacturer)Ralink corp.. This is your wireless adapter driver. Update it.

Uninstall sptd.sys, uninstall AVG, and take care of the above drivers. Reboot and run your system. Let's see how it does. If you get another BSOD, upload it to us and we will go from there. If you need help with any of this, please post and ask.

@CarlTR6: Thanks for the help! I did everything you adviced, but it still crashes. Here is the most recent minidump.

EDIT:
Just had a wierd crash: instead of a BSOD, only the sound driver stopped working: that is, my boxes made this irritating repeating noise which is part of every BSOD. I could however close all programs and restart with no problem. Does this make sense to anybody?
