    Blue Screen issue with ek162x64.sys

    Windows 7 Ultimate
    - x64 - Reinstalled
    - Full retail version

    - computer is new, company supplied, a month old perhaps.
    - Fresh install 4 days old

Intermittent BSODs, always when network access is involved. Usually on a new network request, i.e. when opening a new file from a network drive or following a link in a browser.
Have tried reinstalling the intel Gbit network driver without change.
Currently trying an older WiFi driver that my college is using on a machine like mine and the same OS, used the latest driver previously but there is no change in the BSOD behaviour.
Have not found any newer version of the ek162x64.sys on either Dell or Intel website.
Is there anything else that might interfere in this case?
Have at least one college that has the exact same model as mine, Dell Latitude E6410 and also running Windows 7 x64.

This problem also occurred before Symantec AntiVirus was installed.

This BSOD was caused by the intel network driver
Use the intel update utility to find a newer driver

This was likely caused by the following module: e1k62x64.sys
    Bugcheck code: 0xD1 (0x68, 0x2, 0x1, 0xFFFFF880044852E0)
    Error: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

My suspicion as well but unfortunately I'm already using the latest driver and tried reinstalling it several times.
The strange part is that my college has the same set-up as min,e with the same driver versions but no problems at all.
Could this be caused by faulty hardware in my system?

All of thes dumps are error code D1, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL; probably caused by a driver. The dumps all blame e1k62x64.sys.

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an

caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If kernel debugger is available get stack backtrace.

Your e1k62x64.sys driver is up to date and may not be the real cause of of the crashes. It may be affected by something else. It is not unusual for a third party antivirus or firewall to affect the LAN adapter.

I find the following very obsolete driver on your system. This is an XP driver.
    SYMEVENT64x86.SYS Wed Oct 18 00:14:17 2006
Not only is the driver obsolete, it is a Symantec/Norton driver. Norton is known to cause BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Uninstall any Norton product using this uninstall tool: Info > Tool. Download and install Micrsoft Security Essentials and make sure Windows Firewall is turned on.

I also find the following out of date drivers on your system. Some are very obsolete. OUt of date drivers can and do cause conflicts, memory corruption and crashes. Update these drivers, especially those in red font.

Virtual Machine Monitor belongs to the software Microsoft Virtual PC, Microsoft Download Center. Update this software with the latest from Microsoft.

VMNetSrv.sys Wed Jan 24 07:05:46 2007 - Microsoft Virtual Machine Network Services Driver, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx. Update this software with the latest from Microsoft.

After you have uninstalled Norton and updated/upgraded these drivers, reboot and run your system. Let's see if this solves your problem. If you get another BSOD, upload it, and we will go from there. Let us know how your system is doing.

Thanx for the info, will look for updated drivers on those old ones.
Do not believe there are any newer version of the Virtual PC software but will try uninstalling it if no other solution works.
The BSODs was present for 3 days before I installed Symantec so do not believe that is the bad guy here. But again, if nothing else works it goes!

Also found an entry on an intel forum on this error: Problem with Intel 82577LM Gigabit...
Seems to be a known error on the current driver package from Intel and a fix will have to go through their usual release process thus taking a while to get out there. The fix is simple enough though, remove the driver from the system. Edit the .inf file and then reinstall.
I have applied the Intel fix and no BSOD for a couple of hours but using the wireless now that I'm at home.
Will stress the nic and check how it works on Monday when I'm back at the office.

Will post more on the results on Monday.
Seems to be allot of people having the same problem with this particular driver so a solution that works should be communicated.

I thank you for that information. Please let us know how that works out. If you want to keep Norton, completely uninstall it using the uninstall tool. Download and install the latest version. That old Norton driver will come back to bite you unless you get rid of it. A new version will not install that obsolete driver.

The Intel fix did not solve the problem completely, it did improve things considerably though so it is probably a good thing to tell other users with this problem
Last Friday I had about 5 BSOD's in 3 hours. Today there was 1 in 3 hours while stressing the nic with downloads, uploads etc. Checked the dump and the same problems showed this time.
Uninstalled Symantec and the old version of Virtual PC and have been running without problems for about 4 hours now.
If I have any more problems I'll post again and upload the dump.

    Thnx for all the help!

Good news, Martin. Thank you for the update. Those old drivers were definitely not helping your system stability. I hope you have solved the problem! :) Let us know.
