I do not have access to another graphics card or motherboard. By asking this, I take it you are not ruling out the possibility of either or both being faulty?

I won't use defraggler now anymore, just to see what happens. How does everything else look in the files I have attached, configuration and driver wise?

Also, elsewhere on this forum I've read about Catalyst 10.12 being a BSOD causer more than before. Do you suspect a connection?

edit to add: was just editing a bunch of youtube videos on-site, closed a whole bunch of tabs afterwards and got the notion that ATI display driver stopped responding but was able to recover. I got this feeling this BSOD has something to do with it, software/driver wise. The system just runs too damn good to still have some hardware issues, if you ask me. But one never knows....

I haven't noticed a strong correlation between CCC and BSODs; I've seen maybe a few, as well as a handful of various other problems, but overall, it's not a terribly risky program. Still, uninstall CCC if you don't need it, and leave only the driver installed.

I don't rule out the possibility of those parts being bad; we just need a bit more time to see of the problem was caused by Defraggler.

I just ran a 3 hour Furmark test, related to another topic, no artifacts, no crash, 87 degrees celsius max on the GPU. And to add to that, I haven't yet had any BSOD in games either. Just while running defraggler, related or not. We'll see what happens, but at least Furmark ran well so far!

edit: I'm thinking there are some issues with the display driver, as I've had 2 or so recoveries yesterday while viewing flash movies. Still no trouble during gaming. I'll keep an eye on the 11.01 driver, perhaps try a few old ones like 10.3 or something.
Also, there are actually users around that have weird BSOD's involving atikmdag.sys and recovery errors with 10.12, also on 5870 cards. Whereas previously they didn't have any problems. So, not yet nailed down, but still...
AND having sleep mode on for your monitor, MAY cause trouble as far as I've read. Which I DID have, at the time of defraggling. Actually, screensaver and monitor sleep were both set at 10 minutes if I remember. Time will tell!

Hi again Jonathan, just an update here,

My system has been idle all day, but also defragging part of the raid array with defraggler. This time without problems. I'm seriously suspecting AMD drivers to just be causing some trouble this release, as explained above. Thought I'd let you know, will continue to keep an eye on everything.

Well, it still runs perfectly fine. Only BSOD's I've seen are during overclocking. So the BSOD's I've had before were definitely AMD's problem.
I managed to find a stable 4Ghz (200x20) really easy. IOH 1.1v, 1.3v for QPI/VTT, 1.26125v for CPU Vcore if I remember correctly (1.232v in CPU-Z during load, due to vDROP/vDROOP options being on, which makes it an even better overclock). Energy saving features enabled, around 70 degrees Celsius max. on the cores during Intel Burn.
My maximum baseclock seems to be around 210Mhz, at 220Mhz the post and bios were super-slomotion

It seems that by putting the IOH on 1.1v, you'd be able to get a higher stable overclock on X58 platforms. Or at least with a lower CPU vCore. I wasn't able to get to 4Ghz stable on this Vcore voltage before, untill I locked the IOH to 1.1v.

Great stuff, thought I'd let you know even though it's slightly off-topic

    Thanks for letting us know.
Glad to hear it's running stable.

    Nice OC, good work.
