Blue Screen on Startup

I just restarted and tried to do a repair again and got a different blue screen.
it says
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

STOP: 0x0000003B (0x0000000000C0000005, 0xFFFFF8000BF20580, 0xFFFFF88004329020, 0x0000000000000000)

A STOP 0x1e (shorthand for what you wrote), is an error that involves accessing memory improperly.

So it's either a problem with the memory, or with a program/driver that's accessing memory (which they all do).

I'd unplug the system from the wall, then open the case and ground yourself.
Then take out the RAM modules. Using a can of compressed air, blow out the slots that the RAM goes in.
Then put the sticks back in carefully, ensuring that each one is fully seated.
Put everything back together and run the built in Windows Memory Diagnostic ( How to use the Vista Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool )

If it passes the memory diag, then you'll have to locate the memory dump files (usually in C:\Windows\Minidump), zip them up and upload them with your next post.

usama: I took the ram out and blew out the slots and then ran the diagnostic tool. it told me i had hardware issues. does this mean my RAM is defective? The RAM didn't come with the laptop, i purchased it myself of newegg and put it in. Anthony: i can't tell you my exact system specs since i don't really remember them from when i bought the laptop, but from what i remember it is a hp pavilion dv6000 special ed with intel core 2 duo T9300 processor, Nvidia Gforce 8400 video card everything after that is a bit hazy.

If the Windows Memory Diagnostic said that you have issues, then I'd have to suspect your RAM.

If you have more than one stick, you can test each stick individually. That way you'll know if it's only one stick that's bad.

Don't forget to unplug the laptop from the wall, remove the battery, and ground yourself on the metal of the case (difficult in a laptop) in order to prevent static discharge from damaging the RAM modules.

Ive found that one of my ram sticks is defective, ill contact the manufacturer and try to send it in. I am relieved to find that the problem was not with Windows 7 and thanks for the help everybody. :)
