Windows 7 Professional x64

I found the following page that may help explain the Dell Drivers... if these folks have their information straight...

Windows 7 on Latitude E6400 - Page 12

I basically un-installed the three apps they talk about and my backlit keyboard still works right... win win. We'll see what happens with my system now. I will check into that USB hub, I don't remember if it is powered or not.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

That is an interesting read and I learned. Thanks for the link. I have found that Win 7's connection manager works far better than the connection managers that come with LAN card cards or Wi-Fi cards. I got rid of most of the Acer utilities that came with my wife's netbook. The thread you linked to is an older thread and was started while Win 7 was RC - before the released version. I gathered that most of the Dell utility stuff is aimed at XP and Vista and not devleoped for Win 7.

I think you are on the right track. Great job of researching.

The power supply units in notebooks and netbooks are not particularly powerful. From my own experience, I have found that a powered hub works much better. I even use a powered hub with my desktop. I do have an unpowered hub for my wife's netbook to use when we are running on the battery with no outside power source.
