Windows 7 lost all styling after BSOD & Start up repair

    Hi people,

I did something silly and wonder if anyone out there can help me reverse my silliness please?

I have a partitioned HD - one side runs with XP and the other with Win 7. This was set up on my 4 year old laptop a few months ago by a high street retailer/engineer following the burn-out of my old HD. The machine is an HP pavilion laptop dv6000 series with 2G Ram. Everything was working really well before this happened so I know that the machine and graphics are up to running aero. The graphics card is NVidia GeoForce Go 7400.

Today, when closing down from XP, There was a short power outage. Next time I booted up in Win 7 I got a BSOD. Panicking somewhat and forgetting at that moment all about the power outage earlier, I ran the start up repair tool.

Of course Win 7 opened, but not with the usual background behind my users photos. When it fully opened, the slideshow theme I set up was still running OK but all of the display settings had reverted to what I would call a very basic classic mode. Gone were the nice aero touches. In fact, gone is any styling. The machine now resembles Windows 98. Also my browser and e-mail client have lost their styling somewhat and now look very basic. Here is a shot of how the taskbar looks:

Whatever I have tried has not re-enabled them. In troubleshooting it says 2 things, 1. that the chosen theme does not support Aero. This is daft because I chose and Aero theme. And, 2. That the desktop Window manager is disabled. When I check, it is actually enabled.

I have tried everything I can think of doing. I have run file diagnostics of all sorts. In fact I can't remember all of the ways i have tried to rectify the problem!

I have done a windows update - no change

I have updated the graphics card driver - no change

I tried system restore and, although I created a restore point 3 weeks ago after ridding my machine of some malware. Windows says that it can find no restore point to restore to.

The XP was pre-installed on the machine and the Win7 was installed by the shop with an OEM key.

If Anyone can help I would be sooo, grateful!

Uninstall the Nvidia driver then use driver sweeper to remove leftover nvidia files
    Guru3D - Driver Sweeper
    Then reinstall the drivers

Sorry. I am confused. If I uninstall these drivers, will my screen not be completely blank? How will I reinstall them?

No, after uninstalling the driver boot into safe mode and reinstall them

BSOD was caused by Mvc25U870.sys part of Micro Vision software, uninstall it

    Code:

Here is what I have done:

I uninstalled the drivers for the nVidia Geoforce Go 7400. rebooted in safe mode. Used the Driver Sweeper tol to get rid of any leftover display drivers. Then rebooted in safe mode again. Installed drivers off the nVidia site (most up to date i could see). No change even after reboot.

I then went into device manager and chose this device and requested driver update. First attempt Windows found more up to date drivers but the install failed because of 'Invalid Handle'

I tried again and second time it installed OK.

Unfortunately, it has not fixed the problem at all.

I cant seem to find any programs relating to micro Vision Software on my machine. Should I just go ahead and uninstall that .sys file?

Any other ideas as to what the problem could be. I know that the system is OK with Win 7 as it was working fine until I did the start up repair.

    Also ran this FYI

Anyone else got any ideas please?

EDIT: I discovered a solution. There were customized themes that had been used so I had to patch 3 files. fortunately there is a Universal Theme Patcher for free so I ran that & in 20 seconds the problem was fixed.

Thanks for the help in previous posts.
