Created 1000's of files on desktop now Exploer.exe hanging

Hi guys, I recently used 7z to archive a file. It asked me how many bytes I would like to split the file into - and I entered 25000 (I assumed I would create 2 25 MB files). Alas, it dumped all the files onto my desktop (1000's), and now Windows Explorer.exe hangs on bootup. Is there any way to circumvent the desktop screen in order for me to access the My Documents folder and obliterate all the unneeded files stored on desktop? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Did you try safe mode? During boot hit f8, quickly, but gently many times.

Yeah, I did too. Actually I now have it figured out - RC'ING on desktop caused the computer to hang - but not indefinitely. Eventually I was able to (albeit slowly) navigate to the desktop folder where 73,002 files (a total of 142 Kb) where found, and are now being dumped from the Recycle Bin - taking 8 minutes to do so (on a quad-core I7 CPU). LOL Thanks for your help though anyways!
