Everything going unresponsive

I've had this computer since September, and this has never happened before. I'm using one app and suddenly it goes unresponsive. Then another app goes unresponsive and so on until windows goes unresponsive. This hasn't happened until today. The weird thing is that, while it was doing this for the first time, I noticed that my free space went from about 30-40 GBs to a few MBs of storage. Could there be any connection there?

Sounds like it could be a virus or malware. If you can get to boot
Run a full antivirus scan and download and run malwarebytes

If you create a recovery DVD, you may be able to boot to recovery options
Create Recovery DVD

The Windows 7 recovery disk is used to boot Seven when it won't boot - to run Startup Repair, System Restore, access a Command Line, Recover using a Seven Backup Image, etc.

Below is a bulletin distributed by MS to explain the start up procedure when Windows will not boot. Startup Repair

Problems starting up a PC can be tricky to fix, since Windows hasn’t had a chance to load its arsenal of troubleshooting tools. Some people simply give up and reinstall Windows.
Startup Repair is designed to prevent a time-consuming reinstallation by diagnosing and repairing problems that prevent Windows from booting. Introduced in Windows Vista, Startup Repair is even easier to use because Windows 7 now installs it on your hard drive for you.

The first thing I would do is try to find out what problem the disk has. Maybe this program can help: About DMDE (DM Disk Editor and Data Recovery Software)

Sorry for bringing this thread back but it seems Firefox is causing me to go unresponsive. Not entirely sure, but it stopped going unresponsive when i switched to chrome. I also found that a bunch of Temp files were using a bunch of space. About 50 GBs of free space. I'm still getting the unresponsive problem though. Even when I'm just dragging things from one folder to another, windows explorer will go unresponsive. I have no idea what could be causing this. Is there a way to find out what's doing this? my computer was fine since september and then suddenly it's doing this

I've noticed recently that when I'm typing, I've been getting alot of spelling errors in my words, in the form of letters missing from the words. At first I thought I just wasn't pressing the keyboard hard enough, but even when I'm consciously typing quite aggressively to stop this, I still get...
