    BSODs, Lockups, Random reboots

This is a pretty new system. I had it built by a long-standing local PC shop with a very good rep, mostly because I didn't want to hassle with the typical issues of putting a new system together. And here I am having trouble....

System is Win 7 Home Premium, 64bit. The OS is original was installed by the builder, and everything is new (~3-4 wks old)

I brought it back to them a couple weeks back. They ran Memtest and apparently didn't find anything, but decided to replace the mem anyway (8GB DDR3). They stress tested it for a day said it was good, and a day after I get it home it starts acting up again. The only BSOD that I could see long enough to read said "Memory_management" as the error source. It sometimes just reboots w/o BSOD, or freezes totally. Might happen twice in a day, or go 2 days just fine. No real pattern to it other than a few times I was watching a clip on YouTube. Sometimes it happens when I am not at the PC.

From reading a bit here it tends to be either memory or a driver conflict. Since they replaced the memory, I am guessing it's a driver, but no clue which one or where to go from here. I don't want to waste another week in the shop if it is just a driver install I need to do.

The requested files are attached in a zip.

Thanks for any help you folks can offer!

    Two things

    1-ASACPI.sys (2005) almost always causes BSOD's

    ASACPI.sys Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 2005
The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down).
    Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).
2-mssmbios.sys Microsoft management BIOS driver. If the above doesnt cure the problem you may need to update the BIOS.

Before you do make a restore point, a backup, and have a working win 7 dvd.

I updated the ASACPI driver successfully (restore point, backup and Win7 disc in hand), so I'll see if that fixes it over the next couple days. Thanks for the fast help!

I think it flaked out on me again. I wasn't at the PC, so I'm not 100% on what happened. Seemed to freeze up. The ASUS BIOS is updated to the most current, per their website. How do I update mssmbios.sys or what do I need to do about that?

At first I was thinking the driver update helped some, but it appears to be doing the same thing again with some regularity. Tonight it hit me twice in a row with a freeze-up while I was watching some simple Youtube video. I have seen that to be the most common element when it freezes-up, but it has frozen a number of other times with no streaming video going then, so it is not likely 100% that issue.

BIOS is current. Is there anything else from the data files I attached that could be the issue from a driver or software standpoint? This is getting very frustrating on a brand new PC...

    Thanks,
    Dave

I ran Memtest for the past 22hrs or so. 11 passes and Zero memory errors. So I'd guess the memory is fine. What other options do I have here?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Norton for AV and firewall. Comcast provides it as part of their high speed internet service.

    Have you tried without it?

I got Bsods several times a day, and I even re-installed windows,, and it failed directly..

it took a while for me to find the problem, but at my side it was ZONEALARM firewall, and ofcourse, the firewall is the first thing to install.
