    another way to remove avg

ok, here is how i removed avg from vista 32 bit machine:
    http://download.avg.com/filedir/util..._2011_1149.exe
    save to desktop - then run - follow directions - restart - avg gone - this removes 2011, 9 , & 8 versions

this is the one for 64 bit -
    http://download.avg.com/filedir/util..._2011_1149.exe

why this 32 bit remover worked on the vista and not the one suggested earlier in this thread i have no idea...but it worked

hope this helps someone else until avg gets out of bed and fixes the update

    good luck

Alright, I got it removed. I had to actually repair-install AVG first, I think it messed up when I was renaming all those .exe files. Anyway, my desktop's still shot down. I don't think there's hope for it, but I'll wait a few more days before I reformat it.

Well, i've got both laptops running, loaded Microsoft Essentials (need something while deciding what to do next)....now it's off to bed and think about all this again tomorrow. Just hope the two windows 7 machines at work didn't get hit with this....we have 30 comps and 8 servers running at work with AVG Business Edition - but we only upgraded two comps to windows 7....thank goodness.....

This did indeed help. I followed the instructions, and now AVG is functioning fine. The link again is Free Antivirus | Forum - Some Windows 7 operating systems cannot be started after latest update

    Thanks
