    Preparing Desktop Windows 7 pro 32 bit


    Good Day,
    > On two occasions now I have had the problem Preparing Desktop after
    > Logging in. The screen is Black with Large Icons on the left hand side
    > and all the Short Cuts pinned to the Task Bar are missing. I have

    Hello Colin, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    Depending on exactly what the error message said, you may be able to fix it yourself by using the tutorial below for the error message.

    The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. - Vista Forums

    or

    User Profile Error - Logged on with a Temporary Profile - Vista Forums

    However, if you keep getting this error, then the only way around this would be to create a new administrator account. Next, copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder. After everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account.
