My computer went into a loop after coming out of "sleep". It would show the windows logo and "windows resuming" but then a black screen with the cursor would appear. The cursor would respond but nothing else. Hard rebooting even after unplugging would go back to the same loop. The computer could not be interrupted by F8. Contacting DELL produced a solution. They recommended unplugging when the resuming windows screen appeared and that solved the problem. Plugging and restarting brought everything on line. I have the impression that the same thing hapenned a few months back and Dell could not solve it and ended replacing the hard drive.
Please help with an explanation of what went wrong (the Dell technician did not offer anything other than mention to some bad file). How to avoid a recurrence?. No real crash and no mini dump were generated.
