Possible OS issue, or hardware issue?
Howdy All. Have a weird issue with my PC, that I've about had enough of. Trying to decide whehter hardware issue, or software.
I built the PC back in January. Specs are in profile. Or Below:
Windows 7 64bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb Core
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 1600
ASUS EN9500GT
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB
Antec CP-850 850W
Antec P183
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro
Originally system would randomly freeze mainly when using internet explorer or doing a few other things. Discovered unstable sectors on the hard drive and replaced drive. Stability went way up. However on occassion I'd come into the PC room, to find that moving the mouse/striking a key, wouldn't wake the monitor up (Not using any sleep or hibernate options, except to turn the monitor off). I'd be forced to do a reset. Have swapped out GFX card for an XFX Geforce 8400GT and problem still existed. I disabled the monitor sleep, and simply powered off the monitor. Low and behold today, the monitor when powering back on, brings up desktop, but Keyboard/Mouse and other I/Os devices not responding. Forced to do a reset again.
I've updated all drivers and such. PC will run for hours and hours on end playing counterstrike source, folding, browsing, or bench testing, but it seems something is up. I've run Memtest on it for I can't even remember how long with no issues.
I'm half leaning towards it being the board. I threw XP back on the system and it ran great except it would BSOD for the integrated sound card on occassion. Went back to W7, and was getting BSODs practically everytime I tried to RDP to the unit from my MAC. Threw in a PCI Intel Gigabit card, and I can RPD to the unit for an indefinate amount of time with no BSOD now.
I'm not overclocking at all, and that 850Watt PSU is putting out plently of juice with almost no variation in power output.
I'm pretty much looking for any ideas for something I've missed. I'm not sure if posting the dump file would be beneficial, but can post it when I get home.
Much Appreciated for any input. Just frustrating that I don't want to throw parts at it, if I don't have to, but to me it looks like I may have to. I usually never have any hardware quality issues with my home builds. My last build was 6 yrs old and was replaced by this machine. I sold it to a coworker for his grandkids. That thing ran from inception OC'd (2500+ AMD Barton to 3200+), and the only issue I ever ran into was the Maxtor drive that took a dump, and the PSU that finally got tired after 4.5 yrs. I have a similiar build to that for a friend that's still running like day one albiet the time the PSU popped a cap after a thunderstorm
