    BSOD & RAM Timings

    Hi,

I put together my first home-built computer last week and have been experiencing some intermittent system crashes leading to BSOD and the error message 'Pagefault In Nonpage Area'. After looking through forums, etc I realised that this may be due to my RAM timings which I hadn't thought to set in the BIOS. I have now changed these but wondered if this was the cause of the problem? I have also run HD tests (chkdsk) & Windows Memory Diagnostic (extended) neither of which found any errors on the memory/drive.

Is there any way to tell whether the RAM timings were the cause of the problem for sure? The crashes I had were seemingly random so I don't know how to test if this has fixed the issue or was just something else? I have attached the dump files the crashes created in this post (using the BSOD Dump & System File Collection App) along with a System Health Report.

Hopefully someone can help me out with this.

    Thank you.

    Alex

New post created with more .dmp files & data as the RAM timings weren't the problem.

Just wanted to add here, I am also using a Gigabyte board with A-Data memory and my secondary drive is a Samsung "spinpoint" drive. I built my system at the end of 2009, installed Win7 and it ran great until October \ November of this year, when it started to crash about every 24 to 48 hours.
I am going to compare your file with mine.

Did you ever get the issues sorted and if so how? I'm wondering if it's due to RAM stability and the other problems are just a symptom? I'm also running an older BIOS version. Not sure if I should update?

The more I read, I think we have different troubles, mine doesn't sound near as bad. Although, I have to wait any where from 12 hours to a week before my next BSOD 'might' happen.

I, just earlier completely uninstalled\reinstalled my GPU driver and just in case it is a problem with ZoneAlarm I went into my network adapter's properties, and disabled 'NetBIOS over TCP\IP', some people have said that can cause crashes with some adapters.

Maybe someone can suggest a good 'Diagnostics Boot CD' with some tools on it similar to the old UltimateBootCD...? You could try just leaving the disc in and PC running and if it still crashes then you'd be pretty sure that it is hardware based.

Also, Did you go back and make sure all hardware is installed properly?

I had thought so. I had a crash last night but not since. I'll post back when my next one occurs. I had read that ADATA RAM is pretty hard to get set up correctly (after I bought it) and think that this might be the issue. I've had people look at my dump files and have gotten several different responses from graphics drivers to daemon tools. I think hardware is the main problem here. In the past it has been hours/days between BSOD but they always occur randomly so I can't recreate them to see if I've fixed the issue.

I need to go back and check my BIOS settings too, I know I had used one or two of those programs that came with the mobo, I don't think I changed anything as my setup would not OC very much at all.

Hey ScotTex, in case you're still interested, I changed out my ADATA ram and got the G.Skills on the mobo compatibility list. It helped a lot!
