Can't Boot Normally - 0x00000116

I just yesterday installed Adobe CS5 Master Collection on my desktop computer, and I had rebooted at least once since then. Overnight, I put my computer into sleep mode, and when I got home from school, the computer wouldn't turn on correctly.

Neither of my monitors were working properly, so I only plugged one in. The Dell bios bootup screen contained artifacts, and I new something was up with the graphics card. It noticed that it didn't "shut down properly" and I decided to try to run Windows normally.

It got to "Loading Windows," and then the screen went black. This lasted for several seconds, and then I got 0x00000116 - And I think nvlddmkm.sys..it was one of the .sys files involved with nVidia drivers.

Long story short, I went into safe mode, uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, and still nothing. I'm really not sure what to do, and since this prevents me from using any of my new software, I'm very frustrated.

I'm running a Dell XPS 700 with Dual GeForce 7900 GTX, 4GB of DDR2 ram, a dual core 3.00 Ghz processor, and I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. If you need any more info, please ask.

If your are getting BSODs, first do this:

Next, nvlddmdk.sys is involved with NVidia. Go into Safe Mode.


Use Guru3D to uninstall all of video driver.


Guru3D - removes leftover traces of drivers for NVIDIA (Display and Chipset), ATI (Display), Creative (Sound) Realtek (Sound), Ageia (PhysX) and Microsoft (Mouse).

Then install newest video driver.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 64 bit
- the original installed OS on the system? I believe the original OS was XP. It was then upgraded to Vista, and then to 7 about a week ago.
- an OEM or full retail version? Full retail

- What is the age of system (hardware)? I got this computer in 2006.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) About a week.

After installing and running driversweeper, I can't even start my computer in safe mode. It gets to the list of files to load and then restarts after a few seconds.

This prevents me from attaching the diagnostics you requested. :/
