    W7 Home Premium x64: AppCrash + BSOD

I've got two computers I use regularly at home, both with W7 x64, and just recently picked up an MSI A6200-461US laptop. It came preloaded with W7 and I had problems with appcrash messages so I did a clean W7 install from a retail disc and updated whatever drivers I could manually. I also updated the BIOS to the latest available.

I want to preface this by saying that this is my second laptop. The first one had constant BSODs, to the point where it was crashing upon first bootup after reformatting it, so I exchanged it. This second one has only had one BSOD in about 1.5 weeks but several appcrash errors. I'm out of the store's return period so I hope this isn't a hardware problem. My girlfriend picked up the same laptop as me and has not had any problems, but we also have different drivers and software installed, and she's running the original BIOS.

    - W7 Home Premium x64 (clean install from retail disc, 4-5 days old?)
    - Hardware is 1.5 weeks old
    - One BSOD in 1.5 weeks, multiple appcrash errors on original W7 install as well as second W7 install

I actually had an appcrash in IE8 trying to activate my forum account. Before that it was when I opened CCleaner. Before that it was Adobe Reader X. I uninstalled AVG Free 2011 and replaced it with MSE (which I see is recommended).

Thank you in advance for any help. I'm pretty good with computers but this is driving me crazy. My desktop and other laptop have been running W7 for over a year with zero BSODs. I find it hard to believe I got a second faulty laptop, but hey, stranger things have happened.

EDIT: I've run memtest86+ without any errors (I don't know how many passes, but I left it for two hours and it said "pass 100%" at the top right) and I did Prime95 for an hour while I watched video and surfed the internet. My CPU usage stayed at 100% and my system was still very usable, I was actually pretty impressed. No BSOD and no appcrash errors while I did this.

Hi, islandboy, and welcome to the forum. Your dump blames a Windows system core file, which is very unlikely to be the real cause.
Error code 34, CACHE_MANAGER. Usual causes: Insufficient physical memory, Indexing, Device driver.
Are you running two antivirus programs? If so, this can easily cause conflicts and memory corruption. I suggest that you uninstall AVG using this removal tool: Tool (64 bit). If you have Identity Protection installed, use this tool to remove it: Tool. AVG is a known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. You already have MSE installed and running which is good. Make sure Windows Firewall is turned on.

Update the following driver from the link provided.
RTKVHD64.sys Thu Jul 02 05:42:36 2009 - Realtek HD Audio Codec Driver Realtek.
Follow the above suggestions, reboot and let's see how your system does. Please update us and let us know. If you get another BSOD, upload it and we will go from there.

That dump file was from before I uninstalled AVG and installed MSE, so I was only ever running one AV at a time. Thanks for the tip on the Realtek driver AND a direct link to it! I downloaded it (all 70MB+ of it, seems kind of big) and installed it. We'll see how my computer goes from now on. The only thing I've noticed is that the UAC pop up comes up much faster than before. Before W7 would pause for a second with a black screen, then show the window.. Now it opens up immediately. That's how it should be because the machine is pretty fast and there's hardly any junk installed.

I will definitely keep this thread updated as I use my laptop over the weekend. Thanks again!!

Bummer.. Random appcrash and BSOD again. The good news is, my first defective laptop along with my current one both have ASint DDR3 RAM, compared to my girlfriend's identical MSI which has Nanya, which is running perfectly fine. So, I ordered another 4GB of RAM (Kingston dual-channel kit) from Amazon and will see how it goes but I'm pretty sure that should fix the problem. I'll definitely report back.

Thanks again! My new memory should be here around Friday; I'm crossing my fingers this will solve the problem :). I decided not to RMA my laptop because then I'd have to ship it back to MSI on my dime -- too bad I didn't notice this before my 14 day return period. Remind me never to buy anything tech from Office Depot! I get 45 days to return with Best Buy, not a 14 day exchange-only policy like Office Depot..

Sorry you missed out on the free return. Let us know how the new RAM does. RAM seem to be a finicky thing.

Problem solved! I received my RAM last week and my laptop has been flawless. Actually, it's been flawless since I removed one stick of the original RAM - one stick threw a BSOD on first bootup with just itself, the second one ran just fine. I'm actually surprised how well W7 ran with just 2GB of RAM while I waited for my 4GB kit from Amazon.

Thanks for all the help! In the end, it was just defective RAM. I felt much more confident in my initial diagnosis thanks to the help of the forums :)

Thank you for reporting back and updating us with such good news. Good job. Updating the video driver seems to have helped smooth your system out also. You are very welcome for the help. Happy computing. :)
