    Problem booting into windows

    Hi all,

I have a problem booting into windows 7. Let me describe the problem further. I built my computer about a year ago and changed my old video card to a EVGA GTX 460 a couple months ago. The setup is running fine for a while. However, a few days ago, my computer suddenly froze and I have been stuck at "welcome" screen ever since with normal login.
I could boot into safe mode, and after some investigation, I could boot into windows disabling "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager", however if I start playing games, the computer starts crashing. The event viewer shows a bunch of errors, like

    - DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server: {7D096C5F-AC08-4F1F-BEB7-5C22C517CE39}
    - The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: discache spldr Wanarpv6
    - Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0

I also used WhoCrashed to look at the dump from BSOD. Here's the output:

    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\121610-26660-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: dxgkrnl.sys (dxgkrnl+0x5CEF8)
    Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA80072604E0, 0xFFFFF880105C1FBC, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009A, 0x4)
    Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
    file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys
    product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
    company: Microsoft Corporation
    description: DirectX Graphics Kernel
Bug check description: This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.
The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system which cannot be identified at this time.
Google query: dxgkrnl.sys Microsoft Corporation VIDEO_TDR_ERROR

It mentioned that my system configuration maybe incorrect and may caused by other drivers. I tried a few things but I couldn't get passed "welcome" screen under normal login.
Here are a few things I have tried to tackle the issue
    - Took out all the unnecessary components
    - sfc /scannow to try to fix any system files, did chkdsk too.
    - Reinstalled windows with different Nvidia drivers (downloading from guru3d.com, using the one from windows update); also tried installing HD Audio, and without it
    - Used driver sweeper/ccleaner to remove driver if I am not doing a fresh install
    - Updated motherboard bios, video card bios
    - Updated all the drivers (sound card, LAN, etc); I used PC Pitstop Driver Alert to make sure all the drivers are current.
    - Did memtest86+ overnight and the memory were fine
    - Used my old video card and everything seems to be fine so far
    - I couldn't do video card stress test (FurMark) since I can't boot into windows normally with any Nvidia drivers (only standard windows VGA driver)
    - I don't have any computer that can test the current video card

    And Here's my system spec:
    Intel i7 860
    Corsair TX 750W
    2x2GB OCZ DDR3 RAM
    EVGA Nivida GTX 460
    Windows 7 Profesional

Is there something else I should try? Sorry for the long post and any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

This stop 0x116 error is related to your GPU/graphic drivers
It is usually caused by a defective video card
    STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

    - Used my old video card and everything seems to be fine so far
This confirms that your new card is bad, RMA it if its still under warranty

Thank you very much with your help.

One thing I forgot to point out, my old video card is ATI HD 3XXX. So I wasn't sure if it could still be driver-related issue.
