Hi,
Did you check the new minidump file?
Thanks,
Slasher
Disabling it sometimes does not prevent the drivers from loading. You would be better off to rename the driver; then you know the driver will not load. You can then disable it in Device Manager.
You are not going to be able to make it work with Win 7; it was not designed for Win 7. Trying to make it work in Win 7 is akin to trying to make a 1960's VW Beetle front end work on a 2010 Porsche Carrera. :) To explain, Win 7 is a totally new operating system; it is not an evolution from XP. Therefore software and hardware designed for XP will not run in Win 7.
I missed that; thank you for pointing it out. The dump directly blames smserial.sys, Motorola SM56 voice modem driver. This is a 2007 driver and is not going to work with Win 7. If you do not use the modem, that is, if you do not use a dialup connection, rename this driver from .sys to .old. Reboot. The driver will not load.
You have made progress with your drivers. These are outdated drivers I still see loaded on your system.

Hey man,
Thanks loads. I found an update for the Motorola driver as well. You see, in XP, I never had this device, but when updating to Windows 7 it detected this new device, but I lost a device that was called 'Conexant Data Fax Modem with SmartCP'. I used DriverMax to get this update, as it was, unbelievably, the only place on the internet I could find it. It turned out that the Motorola device was actually the Conexant Data Fax Modem, just renamed, or something like that. But I just updated it and it works fine now. Is there any way I can give you another file other than the minidump so that you could tell me if the smserial.sys is still causing problems or not?
Another question. I am about to update the NVIDIA graphics driver, is there a need to uninstall the current NVIDIA driver before I install the new modded driver from LaptopVideo2Go?
Thanks,
Slasher
You are doing a fine job of working with these drivers. I don't know of a way other than dump to see if smserial.sys is still causing problems; but you can check the date of it:
Type cmd in search
Then in the cmd window, type driverquery
This will give you a list of the drivers. Find smserial.sys and check the date.
Regarding the driver question, install the new drivers. Use Driver Sweeper to remove the old nVidia drivers.
Hi,
Its still the same date, but I think it might have get fixed. If I get another BSOD, ill upload its mindump.
So, to install the modded driver, I have to use Driver Sweeper to remove the current NVIDIA driver, so there is no more NVIDIA driver left, then I update using the modded driver? How do I use it and how do I get it?
Thanks,
Slasher
Hi,
Ok, I will update my NVIDIA Graphics soon, so I just run Driversweeper, then install the new driver, right?
Ok thanks, I will do it as soon as I update all the other drivers.
Hi Carl,
Can I use Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove the NVIDIA driver instead of Driver Sweeper as I am more comfortable with it and have been using it for almost a year.
Revo Uninstaller Pro - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
Thanks,
Slasher
