3-4 times a day the system will hang and the BSOD will appear

I suspected Zonealarm after reading around a few forums, and have uninstalled so we will see if it happens again today.

can someone shed some light on what this error message is likely to be?

seems home premium is buggy to me,

I have ultimate on another pc (my own custom built pc) and its fine never had a problem

cheers

Hi starman, and welcome to the forum. I looked at your three most recent dumps and they are virtually identical. I think your trouble may be Zone Alarm. It is a known and notorious cause of BSOD's on Win 7 systems. You have two options:

1. Install this hotfix from Microsoft: Stop error message when you run an application that transfers data by using the UDP protocol in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7: "STOP 0x0000007F"

2. Uninstall ZA using this removal tool:
http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe. Turn on Windows Firewall in its place.

I find one outdated driver on your system; it is really obsolete. Out of date crivers can and do cause memory corruption and BSOD's. Update this driver, upgrade CyberLink or uninstall CyberLink.

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
        use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 0000000080050031

Thankyou,

I have uninstalled zonealarm, prior to posting, and touch wood has not BSOD yet

Just found it odd that it runs fine on my win 7 x64 ultimate on a different machine

I shall also look at that outdated driver

Many Thanks Again

You are very welcome, starman. Each computer system is different. Even two identical computers with the exact same software installed are different. One of the mysteries of the computer world. That particular is known to cause problems on some Win 7 systems. I don't believe there is an update for the driver with upgrading CyberLink - for which you have to pay.

Please post back in couple of days and update us. If you are still BSOD free, we will ask the moderators to mark this thread as solved.

well so far so good, no more BSOD
so it was Zonealarm extreme security
thats a shame I like ZA but not anymore

I have installed Bullguard Anti/firewall, see how that behaves

so leave this open for the time being and ill be back in 48hrs to report

cheers

Thanks for the update. If you really like ZA, try the hotfix. Most third party firewalls cause conflicts on some Win 7 systems. You may have trouble with Bullguard. I am currently trying the latest version of Comodo, so far so good.

Well, no, it isn't specifically ZA, it's a bug in TCPIP.SYS that, when ZA uses the UDP protocol, causes the bug to occur and bugcheck the box. However, Win7 with the hotfix Carl mentioned should run ZA just fine.

ok cheers I'm guessing the hotfix is already installed on windows 7 ultimate x64 as ZA has been running months with no issues on that other machine of mine, or like carl says each system is different!

I am using win 7 x64 home premium on this one

will see how bullguard goes

cheers for the info guys much appreciated
