Sporadic BSODs potentially ATI Xfire related

    Hi all,

My computer has been rebooting itself sporadically, and when it comes back in to windows it reports that it suffered a BSOD. The facts are:

    • So far the BSOD/Reboots have ONLY occurred while the system was idle. This could just be chance, but each time the reboots have occurred I wasn't using the system.
    • The BSODs/reboots have been occurring roughly 1-2x a week, very infrequent
    • The BSODs/reboots have only been occurring since I installed my second 5770 to run an ATI crossfire setup
    • I have reinstalled the ATI drivers already, but the error has occurred since I did that.

Here is the dump from the BSOD when I reboot:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

    BCP4: 0000000000000000

I know this sounds trite; but to troubleshoot, uninstall the second 5770 and see if the BSOD's go away. All three of your dumps are nearly identical and blame atikmdag.sys, your video driver.

But before you do that, try updating the following drivers, especially the first two, through the links provided. Out of date drives can cause conflicts and BSOD's. Eliminate these potential conflicts with your video subsystem.
    L1C62x64.sys Wed Apr 01 01:09:17 2009 - Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller (NDIS6.20), Atheros Communications.

netr28ux.sys Wed Feb 25 21:49:17 2009 - Ralink RT2870 series USB 802.11n Wireless Adapter Driver (you may have a different manufacturer). Ralink corp..

    nx6000.sys Fri Jun 26 13:13:21 2009 - Microsoft Lifecam, Software Download.
If updating the drivers does not stop the crashes, uninstall that second video card and see if they go away.

Hello Benn683 and if you allow me CarlTR6, I would like to know if you're using Catalyst 10.12 drivers. If you are, try to completely remove them and install the 10.11 ones. There are epic episodes about BSOD's with Catalyst 10.12 blaming atikmdag.sys file which Carl mentioned.

    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

    remove and re-install using these

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.
