Windows 7 BSOD

Hi guys. I've been having some problems with BSOD lately. Heard you guys were up for the challenge

I've uploaded a zip with the dump files and PERFMON html like you described it.

I hope that you can help me.

System info:
x64 Windows 7 Ultimate

Build this computer myself about year ago.
I've tried to reinstall the system, but didn't really help.

Hi, Jesper, and welcome to the forum. To begin your troubleshooting, I recommend that you uninstall Daemon Tools. It uses a driver, found in your dump, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads. Select uninstall; do NOT select reinstall.

Here is a free alternative CD virtualization program that does not use the sptd.sys driver.
Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

I looked at your three most recent dumps. All three indicate memory corruption and all three blame dxgmms1.sys, the Windows system Direct X driver which is very likely not the real cause.

I find an almost guaranteed BSOD maker on your system -

Code:
ASACPI.sys Sun Mar 27 22:30:36 2005
Quote:
The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).
I recommend that you uninstall AVG antivirus. AVG is a known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Use this removal tool: Tool (64 bit). If you have Identity Protection installed, remove it with this tool: Tool. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials in place of AVG.

I find two other outdated drivers on your system. Update these drivers through the links provided.
Quote:
ExpanDrive.sys Thu Mar 19 14:41:37 2009 - ExpanDrive. ExpanDrive for Windows: Ridiculously simple SFTP drive access on your PC. Update this driver if you can. This is a Vista driver and it may work OK with Win 7. I do not see where the vendor lists this program as Win 7 compatible.

RTKVHD64.sys Fri May 22 14:04:20 2009 - Realtek High Definition Audio Function Driver Realtek. Update this driver.
Uninstall sptd.sys and AVG. Update ASACPI.sys and update the above two drivers. Reboot and see how your ystem runs. Please update us and let us know. If you get another BSOD, upload it and we will go from there.

Thank you very much for this fast and very detailed feedback. I will look into it right away. I'll get back to you if it happens again, or in a couple of days (If it hasn't happened then, I don't think that it will bother me anymore).

Best regards

I did everything that you suggested. "No SPTD was detected". I'm guessing that's a good sign
The reason that you found a lot of Direct X .sys-files is probably because almost everytime I've crashed, I've been playing BFBC2, so that also sounds about right.
ASACPI.sys is now a 2009-version.
I had some problems getting rid of AVG, but it finally seems to have disappeared.
After two days it happened again :/ I had just exited a game, and then it crashed. Writing the same thing in the BSOD as always: "Dumping physical memory to disk" (as i recall it).
I've attached the new dump-files and the PERFMON just like last time.
Could it be hardware-related? I've actually had some problems with one of my 3 blocks (3 x 2 GB). The system wouldn't accept it, so I'm currently running 2 x 2 GB. Hope that you can help me....again

Best regards

Hi, Jesper. I am sorry you had anohter crash. This one is bugcheck 3B, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. It blames the Windows Direct X driver again. Good job on uninstalling sptd.sys and updating RTKVHD64.sys. I still see one outdated driver though. You might try uninstalling this software and see if that improves your system's stability. You can always reinstall it.
Based on what you said above, I recommend that you test your current RAM with Memtest following the instructions in this tutorial: RAM - Test with Memtest86+. Run Memtest from a cold boot after your computer has been off for an hour or two. Let it run for a minimum of 7 passes. This will take 6-8 hours. Post back with your results.

Hi, Carl. I don't have the time this week, but later on I will surely try to run that memory test and uninstall the Expanddrive. I hope that might help. Thanks for all the help so far, anyway

Best regards,
