Windows 7 64 BSOD on GPU IntelGMA/HD5650 switch - notebook

    Hello everyone,

It is my first post on that forum, so again - hello.

I do have some problems with my notebook - Acer TimelineX 5820TG with PQI S525 128GB SSD drive as a replacement for the oryginal drive.

After using it for three months, it started not to wake up from sleep, running extremly slow on startup, finally my graphics quality and performance in Starcraft II dramatically decreased to the point when even menu was "crippin".

I did reverted the system to the point after just drivers and Office 2010 were installed (+ skype + avira as well). Everything was running smooth for four days maybe. Again, SC2 got unplayable, and moreover, I have occasional BSODs (twice i think) during the GPU switching from ATI to Intel ( external to internal GPU).

    Here is a dump listing:

Can you look into this? It seems that driver requested the wrong IRQ, but I do not know which that was - I suppose that it was an ATI driver, which actually I just updated from the Acer web page.

Hello there, well... i'm not on the BSOD squad but from what i see in the log, the cause of that particular BSOD is the Avira Antivirus and your Graphic Cards...

I also recommend to download the drivers from the manufacturer's website, in your case, go to:

    Graphics Drivers & Software

And download the latest drivers for your notebook.

After that, uninstall your current ATI drivers, run Driver Sweeper to remove any leftover from the drivers, reboot and then install the new ones...

wow, thanks for the fast reply :)

I will try to install a GPU driver from AMD/ATI website. The antyvirus is not recognized in performance report. Maybe that is the problem. I have never had problems with Avira before. I am not sure but I do not like behaviour of my SSD drive - its kinda "stutter" from time to time and has 120GB only... and I can not read SMART from it.

Maybe S.M.A.R.T. is not enabled on the BIOS ¿? check that out..

Another recommendation would be to uninstall your AV and analyze it with Malwarebytes, only to discard..

    So:

    1) Update drivers from AMD and Intel (update the integrated ones, too)
    2) Uninstall your AV and analyze with MBAM
    3) Test again :)

Report back after all that, please :)

i am back. bios in that notebook is a joke - there are absolutely no options available. If SATA drive is considered, I can only choose IDE/AHCI (it is now and always was set to AHCI). My bios version is 1.13, there is 1.19 available, maybe I will upgrade. What are my options of checking the drive without SMART?

Unfortunately driver from ATI webpage could not have been installed. Actually installation returned success at the end, but driver does not work, along with Intel drive that was yet untouched by me (so I have know 800x600). Procedure was the one you described:
    1. uninstall ATI
    2. sweep with driver sweeper
    3. reboot and install new driver

The orginal ATI driver was 100MB less in weight and had 4 less options available for selection during install.

I think I need to revert back to ACER driver for ATI card, because I can make it work with oryginal driver :/

UPDATE: drivere package for mobility HD5xxx series for Windows 7 64bit on ATI webpage contain no driver in it, just CCC.

UPDATE2: reverted back to newest driver from ACER, upgraded BIOS to 1.22 (still no SMART), changed AV software from AVIRA to AVAST 4.8 - seems to be OK

That Malwaretesting program - how it works? Do I need to install that appliaction? How do I check uninstalled application?

Malwarebytes, yes.. you need to install it, but it won't "real-time" protect you, it will only work when you need it to.. or when you want it to.. you choose full scan and that's it..

Yeah, usually notebook's BIOS is a joke, but it's OK, you already have the SSD running in AHCI mode..

That's weird, i just checked the ATI site and there's no Display Driver, only CCC unless.. it already has Display Driver in it... don't know, i'm a Nvidia user

    Have you had recent BSODs?

Can you look into this? It seems that driver requested the wrong IRQ, but I do not know which that was - I suppose that it was an ATI driver, which actually I just updated from the Acer web page.

    Two problems

1-sptd.sys a huge cause of BSODs
Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.

    Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

2- The actual cause AVG. Remove and replace with Microsoft Security essentials

    AVG - Download tools

And thanks for running the DMP.

thanks to everyone, only one more thing - does someone know how to check my drive? because now every single tool report that the HDD is fine, but I am pretty sure it decreased its size due to wear off and I would like to know more about that.

    regards,

    hi again guys,

I am digging up my thread as the problem has returned in the very similiar form yet now the BSOD appears during wake up from sleep.

I will describe a little bit what was changed during the period between my posts. When I have oryginally reported my problem to that forum, I just have changed oryginal WD5000BEVT HDD to the PQI S528 128GB SSD and the problems with BSODs during GPU change took place. Eventually, because that PQI S528 was really bad performing SSD which moreover was getting more bad with time, it was replaced by S535 128GB (I have no other option, no cash back was allowed), which is based on SandForce1200 controller and works perfect. However BSODs appeared again and right now I am pretty sure that this is caused by the PQI SSD in the system. During the time the drive was sent for replacement, I have inserted back my WD drive and no problems were deteced ( another issue might be that in WD HDD I have oryginal Acer Windows and on SSDs I have my own clean W7 install).

Crash dump files attached. Any help apprecieted. Hope someone can look into that as I have read people do have problems with SSD caused BSODs - I have already turned off data caching as it was suggested on some forums, but the problem remains unsolved.

    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 ENG w/ SP1 integrated
Avast 6 and I have had DT installed (now they are gone - i forgot to use stpd.sys uninstaller )
    VMWare Workstation 7 (currently uninstalled)

Problem still persists, however after Workstation have been uninstalled, I encountered only 2 BSODs for 5 wakeups.
