    See if this cures it:

Delete your Iconcache and the Thumbcaches found in C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer then reboot

    hi all,

i've had a similar problem some time ago. back then, i've set the icon view to the "smallest" and used a third party application to make the shortcut "arrow" transparent. i guessed it conflicted with windows or another third party application, instead made the arrow "black" covering the whole or partially the desktop icons.

the solution to that was using an application that "TOTALLY" or temporarily removes the shortcut arrow. i can't tell you which one i used but there's lots around.

Yep, it's most likely a issue with the shortcut arrow overlay on it's icon making it look like that. Changing the shortcut arrow back to default using Option One in the tutorial below should fix this if this is the case. :)
