BlueScreen and Lockups

Hey Guys,

Thanks for looking over this. BlueScreen crashes and lockups, sometimes during video playback, other times while I'm not even near the comp... If I could isolate it to one or two faultly pieces of hardware I'd gladly replace them...

-My Windows 7 is x64 bit
-Built the system so no default OS
-Full retail Windows 7 Pro
-Hardware is less than or near a year old.
-System was giving me problems so I completely wiped and re-installed Win7. My lock-ups and rebooting still occur on a fresh system with only Windows Updates, Avast Antivirus, Drivers, Steam and a couple of games installed.

Latest Error Events:

First Event:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001a (0x0000000000041790, 0xfffffa80001df070, 0x000000000000ffff, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 012611-22448-01.

I can't read the dump files at the moment, but all your software faults are being caused by avast.

Ok, since I'm in test mode I've completely removed Avast. I'll use the computer for a couple of days and see if it continues to lock up. I'm worried that avast messing up is just a symptom of a larger problem... hoping I don't have PSU, memory, or GPU problems. Thanks for looking.

Jcgriff2's utility is great! Is there a guide or something I can follow to be able to read into all the data?

You need the microsoft debugger package.

Download details: Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 4

You'll also likely need to install the extended version of .net 4 for it to work. (that's basically just .net framework with all the optionals ticked.
too view dump files.

The system info can be viewed with the built in windows sys info viewer.

Hello,

I would first start uninstalling Avast as Maguscreed requested. Avast is a known cause of BSOD and same as third-party anti-virus. Uninstall Avast and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE): http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Run Driver Verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Regards,
Dean P

Thanks guys, a few days after removing Avast and the system seems stable. Blows my mind... Avast worked fine for years on both XP and Win7 systems (for two years on this system in particular!) then all of a sudden... wham... it hates my hardware.

The driver check was a pretty crazy trip too. Definitely make that restore point before starting!

Thanks again,
Noigel
