Gaming BSOD/Power off

- x64 Full retail.

I've been experiencing crashing, most notably while playing Starcraft 2.
I would be anywhere from 10 seconds into a game to 30 minutes and it would just freeze my screen and the power to all my peripherals would turn off. My G15 and G9 connected via USB are no longer having their lights powered on.

Games like Counter Strike Source and Call of Duty can run for 5-6 hours straight without fault, only twice have I crashed while playing Counter Strike Source.

I'm assuming a drive or video card fault. I installed a hotfix recently which changed the error message on the BSOD so I know it had some affect on it. It was a Microsoft (not AMD) hotfix relating to the video card (ATI HD 5850), something to do with the videocard being recognized as being idle and causing a crash. Changed the error on the BSOD from an SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION instead of IRQL_NOT_LESS error.

I leave my PC on 24/7 and it never crashes while idling. My temps are normal and I changed any overclocks I had back to stock. Still causing issues.

Memory corruption. Caused by either and older driver or the memory itself.

1-run memtest

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.


Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

2-sptd.sys used in daemon tools and alcohol120

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

Daemon tools uninstalled and used that program you listed to remove sptd.sys

Went into safemode to use Driver Sweeper to remove all my video card drivers and files, reinstalled with latest 11.1 drivers.

Updated WiWinAcc.sys, SiWinRem.sys and Si3132.sys files/drivers.
The other two are updated, used runscanner.net to confirm.

Passed the Memtests with 0 errors.

After rebooting from the memtest my PC bluescreened within 5 minutes while being idle. For some reason this bluescreen didn't write any dumps?

Since then my PC has powered itself off and turned itself back on twice within 5 minutes.
It's till now It has been running for 30 minutes.

I have been switching RAM sockets and RAM sticks after each issue. Ram is no longer considered the issue? I have 4 sticks that I have been swapping around.

I have tested in the past two different power supplies. A 750W and a 450W (Which is what i am currently using). I do not believe the PSU is the issue either.
Temps are normal as well.

I'm confused as to what the issue may be. I decided two months ago to update my video card drivers, that is the only thing that I could think of that could have started this issue.

Issue resolved I believe. Even though after all that, it resulted in my PC turning off twice within the space of 5 minutes, after that I've managed to play 5 games of starcraft 2 and have my PC running perfectly fine.

I just hope this is the last of the BSOD.
