    Very Sporadic BSOD

I hope you can help, this BSOD is driving me nuts!

I bought the system, custom built, over two years ago. After a few weeks I had a BSOD - the error suggests checking any hardware I installed recently but as it was all new I ignored it.

A few weeks went by and then another one...then another. The problem is every time I try to do something to address the problem I think I've fixed it because the BSOD is so sporadic! I can get it after half an hour or usage with several in one day or I can use it for hours without any problem and not see one for weeks!

It came with Vista Premium (32 bit) pre-installed. After months of this Windows 7 came out so I upgraded to Windows 7 and chose the wipe clean and upgrade from scratch option. I thought I'd beat it but then hardly used my PC for months afterwards.

Until early December. I've been using it regular since and the BSOD is back. I've done everything! I've upgraded the graphics card to the latest drivers, flashed the BIOS to the latest (none-Beta) version, I have AVAST and Spybot Seek & Destroy installed which I update and run regularly, I've defragged the HD, run every diag and benchmarking program I can think of and all have passed. I've opened the case up to check for anything loose, cleaned all the dust out. I've set the BIOS to default and turned all overclocking off, enabled the AMD Cool N Quiet option and set the power management setting in windows to power save mode in case it was a overheating issue.

As a last course of action I replaced the memory three weeks ago. I had two 1 gig sticks so decided to upgrade and I've got 2 2gig ones that are compatible with my motherboard. All seemed fine and again I thought I'd beat the ******* but in the last few days I've had two more BSOD's!!

I've attached the files as per the sticky, if you need any more info let me know!

    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
    If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
            use .trap on that value
    Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
    Arguments:

The reports that you have submitted reveal clues to the cause of your problem. They do not give a definitive answer. The more reports that we receive the more clues are made available improving our chances of finding a solution to your problem. Each remedy suggested must be performed regardless of placement in this report or other variables. You may have to experience several more BSODs until the final answer is discovered.

    If overclocking restore normal settings

    SFC /scannow
    System Files - SFC Command

    Scan with your Anti Virus

Update outdated listed drivers. If I have inadvertently listed any Microsoft Drivers, they can be ignored.

Asacpi.sys is a driver from the Austek Computer Corp. Your driver is very old and is known to cause BSOD's in current Windows versions; it must be updated
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

    How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
    and here
    http://www.edbott.com/weblog/the-vista-master-driver-list/
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper
    www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
You can also locate information about your driver using this information
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96442-device-manager-finding-unknown-devices.html

After performing all of the above, post back with any new BSOD reports, or indicate that the attempted repairs were successful.
If any links do not work, if clicked, please copy and paste to browser address bar.
It is very important to remember that the dump reports only give clues as to the problem and although it is very easy to analyze only one or two, usually more are needed. If you experience additional BSOD after installing a current version of the driver in question, be sure to post so that we can use the additional information to assist you in preventing the BSOD's

Many thanks for those suggestions - I'll get right on it and report back if any further BSOD's occur!

I seem to be having trouble doing any of the recommendations.

I've searched for an update of Amdk8.sys but the official AMD site does not list any new drivers since the release of XP:

    AMD Support Search

I'm wary of installing a set of drivers unless they are newer than the one I have installed and say support windows 7.

Asacpi.sys - When I go to the ASUS website linked the Asus Navigation Wizard fails to launch the install wizard (I just keep clicking on the GO link which has a URL of javascript:install_activex() and does nothing). So a manual search on Asacpi.sys returns nothing. Inputting my motherboard details returns BIOS updates which I've already done prior to posting on this forum. There does not seem to be any option to search on processor drivers.

The SCF command link says this command specific for Vista. Will this be safe to run on Windows 7?

I installed driversweeper. The link seems to be for an older version which gave an error when I tried to run it after installing but I found the latest version and this runs fine. When I run it the report is giving me the option to remove drivers. I just want to confirm are these leftover remnants of drivers it has detected or is it also offering to remove drivers that I'm currently using?

Sorry about asking for confirmation on these but what I failed to mention in my original post was when I first flashed the BIOS it failed and I ended up with a very expensive paperweight for a PC. All recovery attempts failed and in the end I had to buy a new BIOS chip so I'm being 'extra' cautious!

Lets do the most important one first.
    You could use this information
Use Windows Vista Compatibility Mode to Install Windows XP Drivers – Software Driver Download™
    or
You could just return to device manager and use install previous version.
You could make a system restore point first to prevent problems.

For Asacpi, the above post looks good.

That being said, I only relate information that I feel is correct. I am not going to assure you that if you proceed the problem will be fixed and no other problems will orccur. I would feel awful if I said something like that and a problem did occur.

Thanks for the reply Thimble. I still cannot locate the ASACPI.sys. I input my Motherboard (M2N-SLI Deluxe) - under Utilities is a tool which updates my BIOS. I tried this previously and it corrupted my BIOS - I need to order a new BIOS chip and flashed my BIOS manually. There's no ASACPI.sys that I can see at all in any of the categories.

I'll try the other links you've provided (at work at the moment) and see how I get on!

Richc46 - I appreciate the efforts - I'm just being cautious because of the above and I am wary of trying out solutions which specify Vista instead of Windows 7.

Its your computer and the final decision is yours. I can merely present ideas and you are free to use them or not. Whatever you decide, I hope that it solves your problem.

Try here. Not your Mobo, but they're all the same (file, not Mobo!) Asus ATK0110 driver. Look under the sub-heading: Utilities.
    Roughly the 12th one down.
