    BSOD with ataport.sys or KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

    Hi all,
    my first post...

    Hope someone can help me:

For the last two days I have experienced a BSOD on my two years old WIndows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Never happened before.

The only new program I have installed is JDownloader, but the BSOD happens also when JDownloader is not working.
And once, when running "chkdsk d:" the console returned that couldn't do it because drive D: was RAW (???)

As far as I can remember, BSOD happened when:
    - JDownloader was downloading (to drive D:),
    - chkdsk /f or /r on disk d:
    - downloading from internet to drive D:.

    Drive D: is a 350gb partition of a 500gb drive (seagate).

Running chkdsk /f on drive D did return some errors that were fixed.
Could not run chkdsk /r because the system crashes every time.
    Will try again.
S.M.A.R.T does not return any error on this disk (C+D partitions).

I have attached my last 5 minidumps, because some had error ATAPORT.SYS and others had error KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and I do not know if both errors have the same origin or not.

    thanks

Memory corruption caused by a disk controller error.

    I would test the memory
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

And go to the mfrs site download the diax tester and run it.

    hi Ken,
    thanks for your reply.
I ran the memtest86 (from a usb bootable) 5 times without errors (after 2.5 hours).

Running the Microsoft Memory Diagnostic now (extended tests).
    So far no errors.

And finally, what else can I check?

    thanks

    Ok.
So I left running the whole day with the Microsoft memory test and the memtest86.
    But no error was reported.

I tried then running "chkdsk /r d:" again and the result was another bsod.

Finally I ran the "chkdsk /r d:" from the SAFE mode command line and it finished with the following error:
"The second NTFS boot sector is unwriteable".

Could this be the root of the problem?

    Please help.

    Thanks.
