BSOD dxgmms1.sys/nvlddmkm.sys/dxgkrnl.sys
My computer woes have been going on for quite some time and I'm just about to rip my hair out over this.
My husband and I bought builders kits two years ago that consisted of an Asus P5Q Pro motherboard, two sticks of 2gb corsair memory, an XFX nvidia 260gtx, an Intel core2 quad Q9550@2.83GHz, 650w corsair power supply, along with a Sata DVDRW and 1tb samsung HDD. With this set up, we have come across minimal errors and issues.
This past September we decided to upgrade a few things. I upgraded to an MSI nvidia 480, two additional sticks of 2gb corsair memory, obtained a new motherboard due to one of the PCI slots on the other motherboard cracking, now a Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, and I began running a dual monitor set up. At the time, I also started running my 260 at a physx card, but have since took it back out under the suspicion that my power supply can not handle both cards. My husband also upgraded to two extra sticks of memory and has had little to no problems at all.
About mid-October I began getting alot of memory errors. Prominently while playing World of Warcraft. The game would crash multiple times a day with an error of "memory could not be written". While it was going on, I also began getting blue screens. Not just in the game but while using Second Life, browsing the internet, randomly chatting on IMs, the blue screens seemed pretty random. At first the blue screens started every few days, to every other day, to possibly one or two a day. I contacted my dad and we began trying to diagnose my problems. We came across multiple fixes for the memory issues. At first the issue would seem to be fixed, but a few days later the game crashes and blue screens would appear. I ran countless memtests, multiple memory diagnostics only for them to come back clean. We eventually found the culprit of being the two new sticks of memory I had just upgraded to by swapping sticks between my husband's PC and mine and the issue transfered to his system.
While this addressed the memory errors, the blue screens were still there. My programs are no longer crashing but it seems the blue screens have taken their place.
I've searched and searched websites upon websites, forum posts upon forum posts and nothing I do seems to help.
Since December when we discovered which memory sticks were actually faulty, I've begun getting alot of dxgmms1.sys, nlddmkm.sys and dxgkrnl.sys errors, with a driver_irql_not_less_or_equal error.
I've driver swept my nvidia drivers multiple times and reinstalled, I've used the most recent to the earliest drivers available for the 480. I've pulled memory, added memory, ran multiple memtests, I've pulled some of my USB devices off to try and locate a faulty driver. I've resorted in running a single monitor set up, pulled my 260 out. I've updated as many drivers as I can (I'm sure there's something i've missed). I've cleaned it rather regularly due to all the crashes and fiddling with the insides quite abit recently.
Heat is not an issue with my system. Even with hard, strainious gaming my GPU doesn't rise higher than 78C and my CPU sits around 40-50C. I might be a little off on the CPU but comparing heat temps with my dad, my computer runs cold even in gaming. Right now, my CPU is running between 30-41C throughout the four cores and my GPU is running 49C. All I have open now are a few IM windows, a browser and a 16bit chat program.
Also a note, when I originally received the first P5Q Pro Turbo board, the entire thing was faulty, so I had to revert back to the P5Q Pro and get a new Turbo board. After I received the new board, I didn't switch it right away and ended up doing so mid-December. The errors I am getting now I was getting with the P5Q Pro board as well as the one I am using now.
I think that's about it. Oh, please be kind, I can build these beasts with my eyes closed but I'm not very good with programing and software terminology.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
