Keyboard problems
Hi Guys;
I'm back again. Now to unfold the sequence of events, some embarrassing and some mystifying.
For starters, after my disaster last year, I bought a new HP computer with plenty of everything. 64 bit. Didn't care too much for the HP wired keyboard so I bought a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse at Costco. Worked fine - until - I spilled a glass of wine on the keyboarsd ! After it dried some keys were "sticky". I tried several home remedies, Windex, carburetor gunk out and NONE worked. So I went back to Costco and bought the only keyboard/mouse combo available, a wireless Logitech. *( It is EXCELLENT ).
THEN I phoned Microsoft tech support and told them what had happened. Asked where I could send the keyboard for repair at my cost. They didn't tell me but a few days later I opened my front door and there was a large package with a new Microsoft wireless keyboard and "invoice" - NO CHARGE !!!
Short time later someone hacked into my E-mail account, stole my contacts list and sent out a whole flock of E-mails to every one on my list - in my name !!! It was a web address for Viagra. No message. Then my keyboard began acting up. I was on the phone for hours with MSN my service provider, Norton my Internet security and Logitech.
The hacker, as Spamtrackers ascertained, was a Russian, Igor Anatolevich Gusev. Russian authorities are pursuing him now.
The problem:
The hacker presumably messed up my computer. Norton set me up with a parallel, duplicate log in as "william". My usual log in is "wetibbe" - administrator. I also have a "guest" log in. So I can log-in as three different persons.
1. I tried to "reset" to an earlier date - did not work. Apparently disabled.
2. When I log in as "wetibbe", administrator two of my "hot keys" F2 E-mail and "calculator" alternately don't function. Either the E-mail, hot key or the calculator hot key alternately won't work. The other hot keys do work.
* Sidebar. Logitech sent to me a "fix" - a download for 64 bit system. I could not open it in while logged in as administrator. However, when I logged in as guest and/or as william I could and did.
3. All keys, hot and other, work properly when logged in as either guest or william but not when logged in as wetibbe administrator.
4. When logged in as wetibbe,administrator I get the error message: Your Internet Security settings prevents you from opening this file. The further message is:
C:Users\Costco\AppData\Local\Temp\Log\...|Msetup.exe
5. Sometimes I also get a message referring to .dll
This may sound like a little "picayune" problem, and an easy solution would be to just log in as guest or william. However, that's not how I function.
I searched the Internet and found many offers to fix "problems" but these seem to be software companies selling product. Last time I "bit" it cost me the price of the software, it certainly did not fix the problem and as a result I lost completely all files and had to order recovery disks from HP which set me back to the day I acquired the computer. Finally I bought a new computer and had to re-purchase much software. It set me back over $1,400. This time I purchased two external hard drives and save everything also on them.
