    BSOD on custom build

Hey folks, here's my basic info:

    Is Windows 7 . . .
    - 64 bit
    - original installed OS on system
    - student version of OS, counts as full retail (can install on multiple machines)
    - All components are approximately 6 months old
    - Reinstalled OS recently (2-3wks ago?) to see if that would fix problem... did not work

Other info: The BSOD seems to occur when I'm playing video games, but it doesn't always happen only then. Thinking it was my original graphics card I RMA'ed it for a new one, recieved a different card and problem still exists. I also tried a different graphics card which used DX10 and the problem subsides a little bit (the BSOD occurs, but not as often).

I'm almost positive this is a hardware or hardware compatibility problem as reformatting the drive and reinstalling the OS didn't fix it... but you folks are the experts!

Let me know if I forgot something or you need something else to troubleshoot.

    Thanks in advance,
    Josh

    Hi swashbuckler and Welcome.

    STOP 0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    Usual causes:
    Device driver

Your latest dump file blames ntkrnlmp.exe which is a Windows System file and is highly unlikely to be the cause.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

    As a Priority:

atikmdag.sys Fri Nov 26 02:46:44 2010 Many people have been having issues with Catalyst 10.12, which is what you currently have installed. Update to the new version following these guidelines.
    Download Catalyst v11.1.**
    Download and install Driver Sweeper.
    Boot to Safe Mode
    Uninstall your current Catalyst SetUp.
Run Driver Sweeper to clean up any left overs.
    Reboot to Normal Mode.
    Install your new Catalyst SetUp.
** Note!! Any WHQLCatalyst SetUp v10.3 - v11.1 can be used except v10.12 (which is not WHQL).

    Outdated Drivers. Update:

    L1C62x64.sys Wed Apr 01 06:09:17 2009 Atheros Drivers. AR813x-AR815x v1.0.0.46 WHQL.rar. Under the Atheros AR81Family Windows Driver x86/x64(Win7,Vista, XP, Server 2003) header.

    Problem continues

    Hey all,

I thought the suggested fixed had solved the problem (no BSODs for a couple days) but it has actually gotten worse over time. Please check out my new BSOD folder!

Also, I ran a memory test overnight with no failures.

    Hi,

Run driver verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

This is most likely a hardware issue however; could you run some hardware diagnostics?

For RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Run all three Prime95 tests: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

Repeated errors such as the one below point toward a CPU error:

I ran Prime95 and it reported a HW failure in about 3 minutes (rounding error checksum). A new CPU is on the way and I should have it installed on Wed. Will report back in then. Thanks!

Glad to hear Prime95 turned up results.

You might want to run Memtest86 now: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

There is a good chance the problem is caused by RAM, and if we can determine that in time, you might be able to cancel the order.
