Windows 7: Bsod - driver_power_state_failure

Bsod - driver_power_state_failure

Simplistically, similiar to others. . .I wanted to debug this myself, but when it came to figuring out the symbols and all. . .well, my patience can only go so far.

narrowed down to conflict between the driver and after the computer comes back to life from sleep mode(it only BSODs after I leave it alone and it goes into sleep).

robably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!KiSwapContext+7a )

but can't find the specific driver. I thought it was a USB expansion port removed, then I thought it was my wacom tablet Cintiq 21utx - driver keeps crashing(no solution from company as of yet), but not quite sure. . . . this is where the the wisdom of the seven comes into the fore.

Thank you,

Zach

Have been having inconsistent issues with a newly installed samsung bluray/DVD R/W drive. . .it would sometimes crash(stuck) or not show up(in the directories). . .however, it's working now, but BSOD still happens.

sometimes Iphone will not read, USB will hang(this is USB that is directly connected to the MB)

but these issues haven't happened - maybe they pop up when PC goes into sleep mode and then tries to power up.

Hi mills and Welcome.

Norton is known to be a cause of BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. I suggest that you uninstall Norton using the Norton Removal Tool ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe in Safe Mode. Download Blue Screen friendly Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Make sure Windows firewall is enabled!

Will look through your dump files for further issues.

Fimble,

Thank you for the quick response - removed norton(huh, if this is the cause, seems silly to bundle with windows 7 stuff). inducing sleep to see if this can be replicated. . .i'll let it sit for the rest of the night, as i'm not sure if it sucessfully shutting down is a proof positive or not. I typically try to keep all the drivers updated, but would be profoundly happy if you found anything amiss - means maybe I can reinstall extra pci usb hub if that wasn't the initial cause of a prior BSOD. In any case, thank you for the looksy, fimble!

Hi mills. Sorry for slight delay. Someone found me things to do......

STOP 0x0000009F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Your latest dump file blames ntkrnlmp.exe which is a Windows System file and is highly unlikely to be the cause.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64

Fimble,

OK, I've updated all the drivers - (I guess that W7 update drivers function in device manager is a little to be desired - as I click that and it says I have the latest. . .hmmm). I'm a little nervous knocking Norton off of my team, is there a better VIRUS scanner?

I let the system go to sleep last night and the next morning(er. . .ok, few hours later) the mouse was very sluggish and I had to hit the power button for it to come out of slumber(very sluggish).

In the process my MX laser mouse decided to stop responding. . .so. . .back to old school(the transmitter and responder still talk to each other, so it might be something else. . .) Not sure if it's related - the mouse is about four/five years old(when mx laser series first came out for logitech)

Thank you for your help - I'll update if the BSOD returns!

Thanks!

z

Bsod - it happened again ! :-(

Left computer, it went to sleep when I went to sleep. Returned to hit the space bar and it came back to. . .life. Apparently, it crashed and had to restart over that period.

I've included today's minidump and the jcgriff2 output.

Thank you!

Zach

Windows 7 Ultimate 64

Thank you for the speedy reply.

OK - this is the update so far:

I have a V-UAY22 Orbit MP camera from Logitech. Upon going to the site to upgrade drivers. . .there was no choice for Windows 7. Vista is as far as it goes. . .it's worked pretty good so far, but I'll unplug it from the system.

Regarding the Sonic solutions. . .this is a bit unclear for me. I don't have any Roxio products installed - just the cyberlink suite. I updated the powerdvd9 yesterday to the most recent.

Regarding the Intel Rapid Storage Technology - dates are different by two months, version the same number - but I updated it regardless.

Restarting now. . .

We'll see! fun fun fun!

Thanks!
