Windows 7: Irql not less or equal

Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Irql not less or equal

I keep getting BSOD reboots when using Windows 7 Ultimate 64. It is bugging me now because I just lost my progress on a game and have many a time lost progress on a photoshop file (I know I should save often but can't do it every second!)

Anyway, it reports either IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL or BAD POOL HEADER. So many places online tell me to run a registry cleaner. I do not trust this advice.

I have run cmd sfc/scan now and it reported corrupt files and that it repaired them, is that the issue?

I have also uploaded the mini dumps from the last three crashes. Not sure if they are the right ones.

Can anyone help me please?

Windows 7 Professional (64x)

Could you please fill in your system specs this might help the BSOD team to solve the problem. And please follow the BSOD posting instructions.

Quite curious how old your hardware is aswell. Had a quite similar problem aswell. And recently my HDD died.

And if you want to clean ur register i would recommend you CCleaner, Its a good free register cleaner. If you want to pay for a program i would recommend you TuneUp Utilitys. Thought this program does alot more then just regestry cleaning.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64

My apologies I didn't see the BSOD posting instructions. All info is attached following the instructions.

My hardware is about 7 or 8 months old. I bought a new system after my previous pc was damaged during a flood.
I do not have me receipt for the parts bought so I am having to use CPU-Z to get the most accurate specs;

AMD Athlon II X4 630 - 2.8GHz (it actually says 803.7MHz in CPU-Z)
Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-US2H Chipset AMD 780G
4GB DDR3 RAM 669.7 MHZ (2 x 2GB)
Radeon HD 4350 1GB/879MHz

In addition to that I have a 500Gb Hard Drive split into 1 x 125Gb (C: ) and 1 x 340Gb (D: )
I also have a Edimax Wireless Card, OEM DVD RW and a front card reader/USB.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? - x64
- the original installed OS on the system? No, OEM build
- an OEM or full retail version? OEM version bought with hardware
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 7 or 8 months.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) A week! I have reinstalled twice before.

I forgot about CCleaner! It used to be one of the first things I installed on a system!

windows 7 ultimate

Hi chris9486 and Welcome.

Usual causes:
Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility.

Your latest dump file blames Memory_Corruption which usually indicates out of date Drivers or Bad Memory.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

As a Priority:

AVG is known to be a cause of BSOD's on Windows 7 systems. Suggest that you uninstall it. Download the correct AVG Remover for your system (32 or 64 bit).
If you have AVG ID protection installed, download the AVGID Protection Remover from the above link as well (it wouldn't hurt to download and run it anyway). Download Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Re-boot to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode run the AVG Removal tools. Re-boot to normal mode and install MSE. Make sure your Windows firewall is enabled!

Are your RAM timings correct?

If blue screens continue:
Run Memtest86+ overnight, after your computer has been off for about an hour . Let it run for at least 7 passes / 6-8 hours. If errors appear you can stop that particular test.
Note!! Any time Memtest86+ reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad Mobo slot. Test RAM sticks individually. When you find a good one then test it in all slots. Post back with the results.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64

Wow that is a comprehensive reply!! More than I was expecting. Thank you very much. I will go through it all now.

Just to note, I am having issues with MSE. I tried to use that before reverting back to AVG, since the reinstall MSE says my Windows is not genuine and I get an activation sequence for Windows 7. When I go through this it activates fine but MSE still reports it as not being genuine and I end up going through the process again and again as a continuous loop. I am quite annoyed because I paid 146 for the OEM 7 Ultimate x64. I have Sky Broadband and with it I get a 12 month subscription to McAfee, but that wont download so I am waiting for them to fix that, would this be an adequate solution?

I will get onto the other issues right away, and I will run memtest tonight, I don't fancy waiting for another 'BSOD' to occur since my 12 month warranty on the RAM will be up in a couple of months and plus I don't want to risk losing more files/game progresses.

I'd say McAfee is one step up from AVG on the naughty ladder!!
The AV I use and I've not seen the later versions involved is ESET Nod32 AV. Download the trial for that if MSE doesn't like you. ESET Downloads. Once your BSOD's are sorted feel free to try out the McAfee, but for now.....

Windows 7 Ultimate 64

Right, I think I could be sorted.

I followed all the instructions and updated my drivers, couldn't find the ACPI one's on the link so I downloaded them from Gigabyte. I checked the log once completed to see what it had installed and checked the versions out and they were the same.

I installed the other drivers.

I ran MEMTEST last night and went to make a cuppa, within 20 minutes I had 98 errors. I realised that leaving it on all night would only show more errors and I only needed a few errors to return my RAM under warranty. So I then tried the sticks individually and in different slots to see if it was the motherboard. One stick gave me errors in every slot and one stick didn't give me any at all. So I returned to the shop today and they checked a serial number and told me they would replace them immediately because they'd had a faulty batch. Excellent, I got 52 for them, and since RAM has gone down in price since, I ended up walking away with Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz HyperX XMP RAM for 38 and with the left over 14, I bought a Zalman Super Flower cooler. I wish I hadn't bought the cooler because in the process of trying to get it on, it was very difficult, I my thumb gave way and popped out of it's socket. I have just got back from the hospital, bandaged and drugged up.

So, hopefully no more BSOD for me!! Thank you so so much for your help!! (I downloaded the ESET trial because Sky are sending me a McAfee disc that will take upto a week)

Hi chris9486.
Good to hear what will hopefully finish as a successful conclusion. Thumbs permitting!

Where did you get the RAM from? Just seemed very good service they gave.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64

I just hope it is successful, if I lose another PSD I am just going to buy a Mac, well save up for a thousand years and then buy one.

I bought it from CCL. There based in Bradford, where I live, but they do online too. Usually cheaper online too than in the shop. They have quite a good reputation and forever win awards in magazines. But in reality, there customer service is usually quite dire and not only my own experiences.

I once bought a case from them for a basic pc for work, that came with a power supply, but the power supply wasn't there and the technical support asked me to double check in a very patronising voice. Like you could miss something as big and bulky as a power supply? When I returned it, they subjected it to their '3 working day test' when it didn't need testing at all because you could clearly see that the power supply was non existent. They're also bad for stock, usually selling out fast and taking an age to re-stock. Anyway, it is CCL Computers, no idea how good the online service is because I always go in to collect as it works out cheaper in the long run.

I know what you mean about CCL. It's handy when you can walk over their doorstep and get them face to face though. Just wish I had a "discount" type outlet closer than 50 miles to me.
