    Win7 startup problem!!!

    Hi,

I have a problem starting my laptop (it's toshiba satelite, 2Gb RAM, Win7 ultimate edition)

So... I press the star button, the PC turns on and when it gets on the first screen (where it usually shows the computer provider, and from where I can access the BOOT MENU) it stops. Total block: I can't access the boot menu, I tried to load the win7 disc but that doesn't work ether. Any ideas????

    Thanks a lot!

    Unplug any devices attached.

Try tapping the F8 key at bootup, see if Repair console is on Tools Menu. If so, access it to run Startup Repair which should automate System Restore. If not, run it from list.

If you cannot boot the Win7 DVD to access Repair console, or even the F8 tools menu, then you have hardware problems.

Try tapping the key given to enter BIOS setup to reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS If you can't access the BIOS then you may have a mobo problem. Try pulling the CMOS battery as shown in tutorial.

Test your RAM with memtest86 CD which will autostart for 5-6 passes: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Test your HD using maker's diagnostic/repair CD extended scan: HD Diagnostic

Hello LyonBlade, welcome to Seven Forums!

To see if you can access the one-time boot menu for the PC, put the Windows 7 DVD into the CD/DVD drive and restart the PC (is this possible?) then as soon as you hit the power button start tapping the F12 key to access the Toshiba one-time boot device menu.

Then run this sfc /scan to see if it finds any integrity issues needing repair and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

Though it does seem you have hardware issues to resolve first.

Hi and thank you for both your answers.

I all ready tried to access the boot up menu and the system restore but I can't. I test the RAM on a friends PC and it works, so it's not that. I think the problem is the hard disc, but i don't know how to test it, so I will probably give the PC to repair service.

    Thanks for the suggestions! :)

You could use the HDD maker's utility to test/repair the HDD if possible, at the link below.
