BSOD - On Random Startup, please help.

    Thank you DeanP for continuing to help me here.
    I did run that FurMark program yesterday for 2 hours and I saw no problems at all and the temps were normal (steady at 60C).

    I always thought it was the video card because these problems did not start that I can recall until I got bought it and replaced my ATI 4850.
    I will this weekend format the drive and install my old ATI card and see if I get the errors again.

    So from your bug check you can pretty much say it is most likely the video card? If so, its only 2 months old so I will try to RMA it back to MSI.

    PS - is it the ram on the card or how would one be able to tell?

    Reinstalling Windows does not fix every BSOD problem - try replace the video card FIRST before you re-install Windows.

    If the BSOD goes away AFTER replacing your graphics card - then you can RMA it back to MSI.

    You can always test your RAM with Memtest86+: RAM - Test with Memtest86+
    - Run at least 7 passes (will take 6-8 hours)
    - Do this overnight

    Ok so I ran the VMT test the FAQ suggested to download and run this program and well...

    MemTest and a video memory stress test
    - Bad sector in memory resulting in corrupt data being communicated between GPU and the system (either video or system memory)

    Hello,

    It sounds like either this is caused by the video card, or the RAM. Either is possible, and it's hard to tell which.

    Tomorrow morning, after your computer has been off all night, immediately boot to Memtest86 and see if it picks up any errors.

    Another thing you can do to try to test RAM, is run the "Blend" Prime95 test; instructions can be found here: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

    Without trying another video card in the system to test, the next best thing you can do is install that card in another computer, to see if the same problems happen there.

    I did that yesterday and it came back with no errors, I let it do 4 passes. But I am pretty sure it is the video card none the less. I will put in my other video card and format the HD to get a clean install and see if I get the same errors.

    It's ok...if we are just testing cold start errors, a 3 or 4 passes is probably plenty.
