    BSOD. help needed. thanks.

    Is Windows 7 . . .
    - x64
    - the original installed OS on the system?
    what i'm using
    - an OEM or full retail version?
    OEM

    - What is the age of system (hardware)?
    around 10 months
    - What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?)
    formatted 2 months ago.

Actually i suspect it's causes from mcafee / my external HD.
can anyone help to check what is the problem. and what should i do except formatting it >.<

    thanks.

i'm not sure does this help can provide more info about what's wrong with my machine. but i just add it in hope it might help.
one of the bluescreen said it's ntfs.sys and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

and sometimes it didn't appear bluescreen but whole system just hang / freeze there. non-responding. it tried to put it there for few hours. and it still freezing over there.

    Hi ahLoonG and Welcome.

You have a few "problem" drivers that will not be helping your situation. One, as you've guessed is McAfee. If you still have McAfee installed (not showing in dump file), follow instructions below.
Your dump files have many different stop codes which could indicate a hardware problem.

    STOP 0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
    Usual causes:
Disk corruption, insufficient physical memory, Device driver, Indexing, Resident antivirus, backup, defrag programs, Disk/Drive failing/failure.

Your latest 5 of 6 dump files list memory_corruption as the probable cause. The other lists: hardware_ram
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

    As a Priority:

McAfee is known to be a cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. I suggest that you uninstall McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe. Download Microsoft Security Essentials as its replacement. Make sure your Windows firewall is enabled! Once your BSOD issues are resolved, feel free to try the latest version of McAfee.

The sptd.sys driver is notorious for causing BSOD's with Windows 7. It's a driver used and installed along with Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120 which you'll also have to uninstall.
Then use the correct (32bit or 64bit) download from Duplex Secure - Downloads to uninstall the SPTD.SYS driver.
Make sure to select the uninstall button!
    Virtual Drives
A couple of alternatives to DT/Alcohol that do not use SPTD.SYS (In no order).
DVDFab. Very small at just over 1Mb installed (My preference).
PowerISO (The program is a trial but the drive emulation is free forever).

    Outdated Drivers. Update:

    ATK64AMD.sys Wed May 13 02:04:54 2009 ATK Hotkey ATK0101 ACPI UTILITY Driver

    lullaby.sys Thu Jun 18 03:45:32 2009 ASUS CopyProtect driver

    Drivers with Updates:

    iaStor.sys Thu Dec 17 18:41:59 2009 Intel Rapid Storage.

Run Memtest86+ overnight, after your computer has been off for about an hour or two so it has a cold start. Let it run for at least 7 passes / 6-8 hours. If errors appear before that you can stop that particular test.
Note!! Any time Memtest86+ reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad Mobo slot. Test RAM sticks individually. When you find a good one then test it in all slots. Post back with the results.Bugcheck Analysis

If you see NtfsExceptionFilter on the stack then the 2nd and 3rd
parameters are the exception record and context record. Do a .cxr
on the 3rd parameter and then kb to obtain a more informative stack

As I say, the SPTD has a bad reputation with Windows 7. You have probably been lucky up until now, but it can/will conflict.....

I'd replace for now. When blue screens stop you can always try an up to date McAfee again.

There may well be a problem there as well. Can you leave it unplugged for a while, see how things go?

    Hi ahLoonG.

I've done a bit of searching about.
Apparently Western Digital (+ Smartware) has issues with systems running Sonic Drive Letter Access (DLA). In fact the suggested "repair" is to remove any software by Sonic Roxio and/or Cd/DVD drive emulation software (a.k.a DT Alcohol)and move on from there.
    Problem:
The computer crashes with a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) when installing the WD (+ SmartWare) external drive on a system running Sonic Drive Letter Access (DLA).

    Cause:
The WD (+ SmartWare) external drive needs to be seen by Sonic DLA as a Virtual CD drive. The WD (+ SmartWare) external drive is not correctly being identified by Sonic DLA as a Virtual CD drive causing BSOD to occur.

owh ic. removed DT, and everything suggested. no sonic installed here. and it work fine now. hope it is fixed.
by the way mind i ask any idea for the machine not booting if my external HD plugged in? cause sometimes it do boot recently and sometimes don't(few months ago) i mean screen freeze and have to turn off the power and restart. this few days it freeze at the booting page again, anyway after i installed intel RST it do boot again. does RST related to that booting issue ?
