Multi BSOD Win 7 home premium 64bit

    Hi,

I bought my sony vaio vpcf136fm about a month ago and it was running normally until it started BSODing with the stop 0x000000BE mentioning the iastor.sys file during the initialization. Eventually I could start it in safe mode with command prompt, but it didn't last enough to save the dmp files. Sometimes the BSOD used to come with the stop 0x0000008E, 0x0000007E or 0x0000001E, most of them mentioning the iastor.sys file.

So I tried to re-install the OS from the recovery hidden partition, and now I'm stuck because it is BSODing during the first restart of the windows installation, and when I try to restart my PC, it says there was an error with the windows installation and I should re-install it, and when I try it, I get the same error, so I'm in a loop and I can't even get far enough to see the dmp files or update any drivers.

I ran the windows memory check and it was OK, and I also ran the Sony Vaio Care software from the recovery partition to check HD and CPU, and they were also OK.

Since I bought this PC in the US and I live in Brazil, it is not supported by the warranty here, and I may have to ship it to the US to get it resolved, which will cost a lot of money and will take a lot of time, so any help on how to handle with this will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Rafaelisabella and welcome

The crash error BE means that a driver (in your case iastor--your storage driver) attempted to write to read only memory.

    Bug Check 0xBE: ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY

The ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY bug check has a value of 0x000000BE. This is issued if a driver attempts to write to a read-only memory segment.

There are a few things you can do but most if not all will need something to boot from.

Since it is a laptop, you cant pull the memory to change where the storage driver writes.

If you have another computer you can download the driver and burn it to cd. Once you have something to boot from (a windows 7 disc) You can boot from the dvd and install the new storage driver as you go along. Can you perhaps borrow a win 7 dvd from a friend?

If you cant you may be able to boot from any other boot-able OS (IE, XP, vista, Linux, Win PE, etc). once booted you can swap the dvd and copy the driver from the newly burned cd to the location in windows where it is supposed to be (usually c:\windows\system32). It will overwrite the corrupted driver.

I hope these help and let us know if you need further assistance

Thanks JMH. I could just start my PC from the miniXP from the Hirens Boot CD and I copied the dmp file of the BSOD that came during the re-installation. I also took a look at the internet and I didn't find any drivers for my storage device (or my HD, please correct me if I understood it wrong). Do you have any idea of where I can find it out?

Also, do you know how can I upload my dmp file so that the other participants can see the error (it was a stop 0x0000001E during the installation)?

    Thanks in advance!

** On re reading this thread I note you wrote

On that basis & knowing that your computer is under warranty -
    IMHO -
I would suggest a duty of care applies even to volunteers assisting.
As I see it we volunteers should not be putting at risk the rights,YOU, the consumer has under that warranty...
Therefore I would strongly suggest that you should seek advice asap.

** A FYI re uploading the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.
    The procedure:
    * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
    * Zip up the copy.
    * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

I just put it back working. The problem is the recovery image that comes with my notebook. I downloaded another win 7 home premium x64 and it installed successfully! Sorry for anything and thank you all for your help!
