    Update History gone after BSOD

My system crashed - the mini dump points to CoreTemp.exe.
The crash itself isn’t the issue but what damage it might have caused .

After the crash the system started up normally and seemed to be fine. However when I checked for updates it gave me an error and the entire Update History was gone and under Most recently cheked for updates and Updates were installed it said Never. Though, as far as I can tell all the updates are still listed under Installed Updates.
The missing update history by itself wouldn’t be a problem. But may be an indicator that there has been some damage to the system.

So my question is where is the update history stored?

    Hi Thomas R.

I believe its the edb.log stored in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs

If you do a manual "search for updates" your installed update history rebuilds itself (but don't quote me on that!!).

If you mean with manual search for updates the function on the Windows Update control panel page – that did not rebuild the history.

So today I installed SP1 on 2 of my 3 Dell M6300 Workstations.
On the one with a nearly clean install of Windows 7 it freed up about 7.2 GB of disk space.
But on my system with the lost history information it didn’t free up any disk space at all. So I assume due to the lost history information SP1 couldn’t remove the no longer needed files of the old updates.

I suppose it’s time for a clean reinstall
