Application Only Opens from Associated File (Dreamweaver CS4)

I have Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. It opened fine until suddenly it stopped. Maybe there was an automatic update that changed a valid configuration. Regardless here is my problem:

I have a start menu shortcut pinned for Dreamweaver CS4. It shows the correct path to the executable in the shortcut properties. Though, when I do this I am shown a loading swirl icon and then it disappears. Normally, the program would display at this point. I cannot open the program from a shortcut. I have found that if I open an associated file (e.g. html, php), Dreamweaver loads just fine.

Any thoughts? I have tried the compatibility settings and run as administrator settings to no avail.

    Thanks, Mike

I solved this one myself. Right click on the shortcut , click 'Troubleshoot Compatibility', and let Windows 7 select the appropriate settings for your application to run. Dreamweaver CS4 works with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

FYI: The shortcut must be in a folder view (e.g. windows explorer window) for the 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' option to be available in the context menu. It isn't available from the Start Menu.

    hi axiom82, welcome to sevenforums,

    thanks for posting your self-fix.

i used to have lots of problems trialling dreamweaver cs4 too - often it would be there in task manager, but not the taskbar. needless to say, i didn't end up buying it! adobe seem to have cured it in cs5.

if i right-click on a shortcut in start-menu, i do see 'troubleshoot compatibility' option in context-menu...
