Multiple freezes BSODs per day for the last 3 weeks

Hello. I hope that someone can assist me to resolve this issue. For the last 3 weeks or so my system has frozen and or BSOD's for no easily apparent reason. Here's some background along with the required items from the excellent posting instructions.
  • Problem does not occur in safe mode I think. Only ran in safe mode for a few 1/2 days because of the limitations of using the system in safe mode.
  • I removed AVG and replaced with MSE - no improvement.
  • I ran Memtest86 overnight and no errors
  • I ran Prime95 for about 1 hour with no errors. I stopped because the CPU was running at 69C which is a lot hotter than usual for me.
  • The internal fans all work OK and is clean of dust etc
  • I checked the PSU with a HWMonitor and except for the -ve rails being way off it was OK. I read that the -ve rails are not used on modern pcs and so it shouldn't matter.
  • I ran disccheck /r and defragged
  • I've used WinDbg and the best I could determine was a hardware fault called lmvm hardware
Other details:
Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? X64 Pro
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? Full Retail
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? about 15mos
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 14mos
Thanks very much in advance, Derek

Dean P Thanks for the suggestions. I've the steps in the link "Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try" with the exception of re-installing windows. I'd like this to be my last resort, plus I have a concern that if it is truly hardware, then the problem will re-emerge anyway. Based on the link and other threads, some updates are...

  • I cleaned up all the devices and drivers with a yellow flag in device manager and checked all listed device drivers for an update.
  • I was left with one "unknown device". I uninstalled that and I think it lead to my USB hubs not working. Anyway I had a hard time getting into the system using a wired keyboard only and then reloaded the USB hubs manually.
  • I was not on SP1 as I thought so I updated to that.
I am still getting freezes
  • The remaining unknown devices is related to Sony Ericsson software (previously removed). I will re-install and then remove to eliminate this.
  • Next I will pull the 2 cards in the system, a modem and a USB expansion card.
  • After this I'm SOL
I did check the PSU voltages and they were OK, but is there a chance that the power supply could be flaky and cause this?
Any other suggestions or analysis of my bug files from the community experts will be warmly recieved.

Thanks, Derek

Reinstalling Windows doesn't quite help with fixing hardware problems - instead, you just ended up losing your data.
You will need to "find" the faulty hardware.

Try testing your RAM with Memtest86+: RAM - Test with Memtest86+
- Run at least 7 passes (takes 6-8 hours)

Test your GPU with Furmark: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Lastly, test your CPU with Prime95: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html
- Use Realtemp to monitor your CPU usages and temperatures.
- Run Blend and Small FFTs test.

Dean: Thanks for the pointers. (I really don't want to re-install)

Thanks to all for the guidance. After removing 2 add-on cards ( a modem and a USB card) the system has been stable for a week. I didn't use the modem card much but I will get a new USB card and try to replace that.

Thanks again. Problem solved (hopefully)
