    Freezing at Welcome Screen


    Since installing Windows 7 Ultimate - 2 out of every 5 times I restart/start my computer it will freeze at the Welcome screen and I will have to pull the power cable. I have left it overnight and still nothing. When this first occured I didnt have anything other than Office and possibly some other work related software on the computer, no tweaks, antivirus, your name it. Since then I have tried tweakign with it to fix this issue, have installed AVG 2011, but still nothing...

    Did your computer come with a pre installed trial Anti Virus
    program?
    If so how did you uninstall it?

    Do you check in Event Viewer for errors frequently?
    Note any with a red mark in Application & System.

    In addition to Jan's advice:

    Could you please run driver verifier?

    Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

    Also, test RAM; see here: RAM - Test with Memtest86+
